Starmer’s self image is “I never lie, I always follow the rules”. Jeremy’s self image was “I have been an anti-racist all my life”. Look at the sniffy fury both of them display when their self-image is challenged. That inability to accept criticism and grow is their original sin.

I was trying to figure out why this was reminding me of Corbyn and his fans, and you're right, this is exactly it
Trying to book a hotel and there's one advertises itself as 'for those with an open mind', which... *surely* means it's actually a swingers' club?
Can't be Convicted Felon Big Ange or be Mayor Andy because their judgement is so appalling anyway, if it's someone already majorly disliked person with bad judgement to take the helm it has to be Ed Miliband because at least we'll get some windfarms out of it.
Diane Abbott, "It's one thing to say as he insists on saying: nobody told me, nobody told me anything"
"The question is, why didn't the Prime Minister ask"
"average New Labour minister causes 3 scandals" factoid actualy just statistical error. average minister causes 0 scandals. Scandals Peter, who lives in cave & causes over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Is there a particular reason unions don't have parties?
Illusionism is currently becoming a bit more popular in philosophy of mind (cf @keithfrankish.com) Here I explain the Wittgensteinian variety of illusionism. Yes, consciousness exists, but it's not the necessarily private inner world you may imagine it is. www.templeton.org/news/is-the-...
Why *has* the Tube still not got air conditioning? I assume there is either a cost barrier or an engineering problem involved.
Yep, that's why the Elizabeth line *does* have aircon: they knew enough about underground railways to know it would be necessary. At first, the deep-level tube tunnels and trains were pleasantly cool, and were even advertised as such! They've been getting gradually hotter for a century
Basically, it's the same reason it's hot: there's nowhere to vent the air (air conditioners vent hot air back out of the building they're attached to). They'd need to sink new shafts and it's be expensive, difficult and in some cases just impossible to do so
So when Starmer was appointed I did think that at least coming from a professional services background he would do some of the basics of management and have the same standards as a KPMG, and what has taken the biggest hit here for me is my believe that the CPS is professionally run.
okay now this is posting
Everyone rightly remembers this for 'man door hand hook car door' but I also still laugh whenever I think of 'i love you sweaty'
In an increasingly volatile world, an even closer partnership with our European allies is in Britain’s long-term national interest.
Closer alignment provides an opportunity to strengthen our security and cut the cost of living.
"The Government’s housing target can be met twice over without touching any green spaces, by building on brownfield sites, renovating empty and dilapidated homes and repurposing office space no longer needed because of home working."
No! It! Can't!
it feels quite bad that it's basically impossible to argue that much of the modern right in the west has become both entirely intellectually shallow and deeply, fundamentally morally corrupt without sounding like a tedious teenage tankie, because it is.....the factual truth
I was thinking this morning how both Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan would have been delighted to see a Westward-looking, centre-right party defeat a pro-Russian autocrat in a former Eastern Bloc country.
Matt Goodwin, Nigel Farage, Donald Trump, James Orr, Arron Banks, Liz Truss, Vladimir Putin.
JD Vance, can you hear me?
JD Vance ... your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!
Kemi Badenoch! Roger Scruton! MattGPT! Bari Weiss! Rod Dreher! Jair Bolsanaro! Howard from the Halifax adverts! JD Vance? You hear me JD Vance? Your boy took a hell of a beating! Your boy took a hell of a beating!
I don't think he believes anything at all. If you put it to him that this is the only possible outcome of what he's said, he'd be genuinely baffled
Polanski's comms on Iran treat people as if they are stupid. You can disagree with the govt position (Greens believe Britain should ban the US from using its bases here + that we should not defend Gulf states—fine!), but the government has been up front about its position for weeks now
many urbanists will know that the argument 'we don't need to build new homes, we have tons of vacant and second homes' is an absolute constant plague in housing discourse but yesterday doing some research i discovered a particularly fun fact: in scotland, it doesn't even work out mathematically
Oh, fuck off you total twat.
'We didn't do that. But, if we did do it, which we did, we were right to do it.'
Who do you think would have worse politics if alive today: John Lennon or Frank Zappa?
Zappa would've gone the Penn Jillette route (annoying libertarian but his innate scepticism wins out eventually, while still being really annoying). Lennon would be a huge fan of Yanis Varoufakis with a big dose of conspiracism added in
I once had a very frustrating argument with someone who refused to accept that the 'dark side of the Moon' was *ever* light, so I'm inclined to agree
I just want this life
