The Poetics of Malcolm X On the poetry that influenced the Civil Rights trailblazer and the art he inspired.

Malcolm X: “I’m a real bug for poetry.”

Elham Shirin traces the poets who shaped him—from prison reading and “Music” to the lyric power of his speeches—and the art his words set in motion across Black radical tradition and global solidarity.

This is such sloppy writing. "I turned on the heel of my stilettos from where I was standing..." What value does "from where I was standing" contribute? What would it mean to turn on your heel from where you aren't standing? And if you turn on your heel, you're still standing in the same place.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.
