i've been calling it an idiot toll booth. every single service has installed an idiot toll booth where, when you first encounter a product, it asks if you're an idiot. if you are, it charges you a ton of money. if you aren't, it makes you do tons of research to be charged slightly less money.

Is this why I need to set up a grocery store app and crawl on my knees to take a picture of a barcode on the bottom shelf to save $2 on my 12-pak of Coke Zero? Only to find there is no cell phone service in the store so the app doesn’t load the coupon to my account and the checkout clerk struggles.
