Young adult happiness is falling. Percent of young people who are pretty or very happy has dropped from 88% to 76% over the last 15 years after having held fairly steady between 1980 and 2010
My hottest “I have no data to back this up” take is that phones aren’t making young people less happy. What’s making them less happy is living in a world where everyone is having their reality defined by recommendation algorithms that can only care about whether something keeps you watching.

"Magataotao" on Twitter writes: "I am Catholic. This👇is not my Pope."
Attached is a video of the Pope saying that we should search for peace and reject war.
A community note under their tweet says: "You are not a Catholic if you do not accept the Pope, but rather a schismatic.
Canon 751: “Schism is the refusal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff,” ie. the Pope.

first in my bloodline to see someone get excommunicated by a community note

I think it's bad for the President to threaten to annihilate an entire culture and i do not think you are being alarmist if you take his threats seriously and literally.

All that shit they say about women are too emotional to be President the United States? And by the way, this isn’t Trump… This is Steven Miller. Just like when he was yelling at people to round up everybody at Home Depot. Same cadence. Oh BTW, Hillary and Kamala wouldn’t have done any of this shit.

Jesus is calling us
to deny ourselves,
to take up our crosses (as we refuse any nationalistic, idolatrous commitments),
& follow Him.
What would Jesus do?
How would Jesus love?
Let’s try that.

NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.

A lot of people need to internalize that, by their own standards, a person half as good as them is more popular than they are, and that's OK and just how it is for now and is what you have to work with.

Yes, but I would be explicit about one more part: they need to publicly, loudly, and repeatedly scream *both* of
1. They'll have the back of anyone who refuses to carry out illegal orders
2. There WILL be consequences for *everyone* who does carry out illegal orders, top to bottom

A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

IDK, seems from current politics that we're much more likely to be in The Expanse timeline than the Star Trek one.
Although Star Trek timeline does have that huge nuclear war, so maybe we're on that path?

Investment in basic science and exploration is a public good.
Do you think the images of Earth from Orion are cool? Guess how they happened? Not just Wednesday’s launch. Years, decades, of the smartest people in the world working on the most difficult problems, just because.
