Help! In Merleau-Ponty's 1959 course, he writes: "[Husserl] speaks of phenomenology as the Alps or the Himalayas: phenomenology is there; it has (a) solid, physical existence." Is this MP's image or H's? Anyone know what ref. MP has in mind that conveys this connection between phenom. and solidity?

The CSU/OpenAI contract is set to expire June 30, 2026.
Sign this petition: actionnetwork.org/petitions/cancel-chatgpt... for the CSU NOT to renew the contract and to use the savings to protect jobs at CSU campuses facing layoffs.

This was such a great conversation, and such a fun opportunity to explore some methodological tensions internal to classical and contemporary phenomenology. Thank you @jyoshimi.bsky.social and @trsam97.bsky.social!
A discussion on Merleau-Pontyan philosophy, cognitive science and ambiguity being fundamental to reality. @robinmuller.bsky.social youtu.be/YPmuFqUwSLw?...
My partner has started a newsletter/recommendations list/short-form blog/tl;dr for novels so you sound cool at parties. It mainly focuses on experimental and translated literature, so if that's your vibe, check it out: www.thebookhold.com
My entry on "Humanism" for Springer's (truly excellent!) Encyclopedia of Phenomenology is out now: An attempt to grapple with a notoriously slippery concept, on whose definition (and philosophical or political significance) no two phenomenologists can ever seem to agree!
Thank you Cara Greene for including my History of American Philosophy course in the APA Syllabus Showcase Series!
Last year, the North American Society for Early Phenomenology invited me to give the keynote talk at their annual meeting. Naturally, I wrote a slightly unhinged paper about Merleau-Ponty, Copernicanism, and Einstein's fingers. Many thanks to NASEP for letting me play! Read it here: rb.gy/ftbnlu
Breaking News: Thousands of Cal State staff walked out to demand higher wages in the largest university faculty strike in U.S. history. They plan to strike for five days.
Want to support the Cal State strike? You can with some ~form-filling shenanigans~ There are 23 campuses and 23 forms that it would be bad to fill out with false info! Here are ALL 23 LINKS. Pls share!

Looking forward to kicking off this year’s series on Friday. I’ll be arguing that readings of Merleau-Ponty as a “post-transcendental” thinker miss the aspects in his thought that make it an especially effective tool of social critique.
Many thanks to University of Nevada, Reno for the occasion to return to this project.
