stop & frisk; except it’s going to be false flags from glasses

it doesn’t have to be this way or keep going in this direction, you can actually regulate all of this

It would be great if the ACL had a blog for people to write in, instead of the conference specific websites.

Netanyahu claimed last week that Magyar invited him to Hungary.

Today Magyar said that Netanyahu will be arrested if he enters Hungary:

“I made it clear to the Israeli PM — we will not back down... If a state is an ICC member and a person who is wanted enters that territory, they must be detained”

Harper | Privacy-First Offline Grammar Checker Harper checks your writing instantly—fast, lightweight and utterly private—so you can polish every clause without surrendering a single keystroke.

As a predominantly inattentive ADHDer, the only way that an LLM could 'help' me write is with cognitive offloading, which is actually a lie, and one that I do not trust.

For grammar checking, there is a great open source alternative to Grammarly which is entirely non-LLM called Harper.

This is simply not true. Labour didn’t have to go right. They *chose* to go right. The big majority was a chance to reset everything back to sanity. Starmer chose the mad, bigoted, ignorant and dishonest route instead.

Something extraordinary – yet predictable – has happened over recent days on Facebook.

Fake accounts that usually post anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim content generated using AI to fuel division and hate in UK are now pushing out AI-gen content asking:

"Should the UK produce its own fuel again?"

Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X
Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

Israel escalates attacks on medics in Lebanon with deadly ‘quadruple tap’ Lebanese health ministry says killing of 91 healthcare workers shows ‘total disregard’ for international law

The Israeli army struck civilians in the Lebanese city of Mayfadoun.

And then, the Israelis double-tapped the medics who arrived onto the scene.

And then, they triple-tapped the next wave of medics.

And then, they did it one more time for good measure.

Just a little reminder that security experts routinely say that biometrics are actually do very poorly as a security measure.

Not just for technical reasons, either.

Imagine a password that you can't change after being informed it was compromised in a hack on a company that forgot to encrypt shit.

Janet Mills says she opposes attempts to stop funding Israel’s defenses Mills said at a campaign stop Friday that she would have issues with any effort to prevent the sale of defensive weapons for Israel's Iron Dome.

Janet Mills says she wouldn't have voted for the resolutions in the Senate to restrict arms sales to Israel— and her reason is that the resolutions would've blocked Iron Dome interceptors.

The two resolutions had nothing to do with Iron Dome interceptors and were about bulldozers and 1000lbs bombs.

Hegseth saying “The Pharisee Press” should be a fully mask off moment. He is saying “The Jewish Press”. But Christians of all political stripes are so devoted to using Pharisees as a rhetorical prop that liberal Christians regularly insist it’s totally fine, no matter how many Jews try to explain.

Why are US academics so defensive about taking DARPA / military money?

I mean I think taking military funding is unethical but clearly people taking military money don't so I really don't understand why they're defensive.
