I wonder if screaming NO QUARTER was altogether wise now that the US military may have POWs of its own in Iran
🧵 A masterclass in creating a dysfunctional command climate.
Also, just existing in the military is dangerous business. And it's why we take safety so seriously. And when the SecDef reaches down and cancels a subordinate's investigation out of hand, brother, bad things are happening.
They look devastated
There are two things giving me a bit of hope RE Spurs:
1) I'm heartened to see that the values of the club at least haven't been forgotten by supporters, & I'm proud of us for speaking up.
2) However long this guy lasts as manager, it won't be forever; we *will* have our Spurs back eventually.
What they said. Feel sick to my stomach.
He's not someone we should be allowing back into the Premier League. I believe in rehabilitation, I think you have to, but as this statement says his comments downplayed the seriousness of the accusations against Greenwood and all clubs should be setting an example that VAWG isn't tolerated.
Well done Caroline. It’s appalling Spurs are even considering de
Zerbi
I am writing to object to the potential hiring of Roberto De Zerbi as manager of the Men’s senior team. It is my firm belief that such a hire would be a complete betrayal of the club’s values, not to mention the harm it would cause to the many supporters who are survivors of sexual assault and abuse. At a time when toxic masculinity is rampant in the sport, the club should not be hiring one of the worst apologists out there. De Zerbi has openly and unashamedly advocated for Mason Greenwood during his time at Marseille, despite the clear video and audio evidence that was seen by the world showing that Greenwood is not a good person, no matter what the law has to say about him (and a reminder here that lack of conviction /= justice done). The club should have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to violence against women, but De Zerbi has turned a blind eye to credible accusations. I, along with many other fans, would worry about the types of characters De Zerbi would bring to the club as players and/or assistant managers.
I would also like to voice my concern that a troubling precedent was already set at Tottenham Hotspur many years ago when Yves Bissouma was signed while he was still a person of interest in a sexual assault case. That signaled that the club was willing to take a legal risk for the sake of sporting gain, regardless of what was or was not known behind the scenes. The message to the outside world, including us fans, was clear. It was wrong then, it remains wrong, and it cannot be repeated. The men’s team will lose so many fans if this hiring goes through, myself included. I am glad that the club previously listened to fan concerns around Gennaro Gattuso in the past, and I fervently hope the same respect for the fanbase’s feelings and values is shown in saying no to De Zerbi. Sincerely, Caroline Stefko
My email to the club is a little more succinct that I would normally be, but it felt like time was of the essence (if not already too late). I hate that the club has put the fanbase in this position that we have to mount an email campaign to demand basic decency. #NoToDeZerbi
No to De Zerbi
THE NORTH LONDON DERBY 🔥
Since joining the WSL we've got more league points from Arsenal than any other 'Top Four' team. Good day to do it again. #COYS 🤍

“In only a few volumes Alan Allport has become the historian of Britain at war. This is no light accomplishment, since many very good volumes have already told this story. But I think this one is the best.” ☺️ Paul Kennedy on #AdvanceBritannia in the @wsj.com

In the latest @oldfrontline.bsky.social we examine Lieutenant Colonel Émile Driant and his stand in the Bois des Caures during the opening phase of the Battle of Verdun in February 1916. We also visit to the battlefield today, 110 years later.

Perhaps if you stayed for the Karaoke the ambience might improve?
These have got to be worth an extra point, surely?

Couldn't sleep, so I wrote about Spurs. I would have anyway, but now it's being posted in time for the earlybird UK crowd rather than crunch time right before the Champions League kickoff 😛. Regardless, enjoy & let me know your thoughts.

A magnificent book and an insight into what the war was like for the bomber crew - like my great uncle who was killed in 1942 flying a Lancaster. I’ve recommended this book to other friends whose uncles and grandfathers were also in Bomber Command. Also good to read alongside ‘The Eighth Passenger.’
I’m expecting an above average level of bleakness & doom, with the possible outbreak of sunshine!
Sporting masochism?
Thoughts on Kinský's Champions League debut to forget, "slippery" excuses, & surprising stadium meals.
Plus, a Spurs-centric Women's Asian Cup roundup, & awards aplenty for Solanke's 🦂.
Two Spurs matches tomorrow, brace yourselves!

I will await your analysis… Hopefully, the Women’s team will continue to provide us with something to be cheerful about!
I know! On the positive side of things, at least someone notices my shares!
BTW, I don’t envy you writing anything about tonight…
