What a privilege to host the legendary Michael Connelly in Raleigh to celebrate the release of THE PROVING GROUND.
Any authors out there with helpful wisdom on beating the Resistance that comes halfway through every draft that whispers "this is garbage"?
The answer can't always be "keep going", sometimes it might be garbage! But I'm all ears.

Saying "I deserve the Nobel Peace Prize" should pretty much be a disqualification in and of itself for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
If only every AI bot that emailed me about their book club actually bought my book...
I swear half of writing is looking at a draft of what was once an irresitible idea -- and asking... "is this anything?"
Still a little confused why Dracula brought his son to the Monster Mash
So are all authors getting inundated via email with AI slop written blasts from random accounts trying to "promote" your books?

Once you’re lucky enough to see something published, you’ve got to explore even more identities. Even if your publisher has support, so much will be thrust upon you. And SO much is opposite what it takes to be a writer.
Identity is such a fickle part of being an author.
At first, it can take forever to identify as an author — not just a writer or wannabe. But that’s just part of the journey.
nice novel you’ve got there. would be a shame if you finish writing it & have to reread & revise the whole thing
Really enjoyed my day yesterday at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. The entire event was organized by students, and they did an amazing job. Plus I got to speak to a great room full of enthusiastic young people who reminded me that hope is never misguided.
You’ve been murdered, who do you want on the case?
