Any authors out there with helpful wisdom on beating the Resistance that comes halfway through every draft that whispers "this is garbage"?

The answer can't always be "keep going", sometimes it might be garbage! But I'm all ears.

Saying "I deserve the Nobel Peace Prize" should pretty much be a disqualification in and of itself for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

I swear half of writing is looking at a draft of what was once an irresitible idea -- and asking... "is this anything?"

Salesperson, marketer, media-person, social media guru, art director, photoshop wiz, public speaker, public figure, etc.

Yes, it’s a champagne challenge that many would KILL to have, but it’s a challenge nonetheless. If you try to wear too many hats, some are going to topple over.

Once you’re lucky enough to see something published, you’ve got to explore even more identities. Even if your publisher has support, so much will be thrust upon you. And SO much is opposite what it takes to be a writer.

Identity is such a fickle part of being an author.

At first, it can take forever to identify as an author — not just a writer or wannabe. But that’s just part of the journey.

nice novel you’ve got there. would be a shame if you finish writing it & have to reread & revise the whole thing

Really enjoyed my day yesterday at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. The entire event was organized by students, and they did an amazing job. Plus I got to speak to a great room full of enthusiastic young people who reminded me that hope is never misguided.

I go back to this Murder in the First interview by @cstegman.bsky.social and featuring #ScottBlackburn whenever I need to refill the well. So grateful to have people like this in the industry -- AND in North Carolina!
