At the Emirates stadium in North London on a beautiful summer's day, a football match, the first of the new season, is in progress. During the action, there's a brief incident between two players. The photo shows the aftermath where a large Wolves player is leaning over a prostate arsenal player. The wolves player, in the admittedly gorgeous yellow of the wolves home kit, has one hand on the arsenal player's neck. Most of his weight is on that hand. The arsenal player is protesting, his two hands trying to reach up to push the wolves player away. You might read that and think gosh, that's not very nice, I hope the referee had a word with the wolves player to say that trying to strangle a person on a football pitch isn't really in the spirit of the game. Perhaps you think the wolves chap should have had a yellow card to go with his yellow shirt, or even a red card to match the arsenal player's shirt. But no. The ref didn't even talk to him.

Later in the same match, the same wolves player tried to put his finger up a different arsenal's players butt. This is fine, according to the referee and VAR. Or a weird instance of sex abuse, if you're most anyone else.

This has been such a strange season that this weirdness feels about five years ago
