It’s fucking infuriating. The trust I work in roughly has about 300 fewer beds compared to when I graduated in 2012. What did they expect??

And A&E was never set up to deliver care for anywhere near that long so as well as being parked in corridors, people’s treatment gets delayed or even missed entirely.

Then when they do finally get to the wards - loads are in way worse nick than they should be so the teams are playing catchup.

The determination just within my career time is fucking grim.

I remember a load of us watching the screen to see what happened when the timer hit 12hrs on the length of stay in a&e because none of us had seen it happen before.

Now regularly see people there >24hrs.

I got offered a job in Sydney which started on $700k AD a year. Consultants in Ireland earn double compared to the standard NHS contract.

Offering a yet again below inflation pay rise this year exacerbates the problem.
