The media's day has been ruined by Olly Robbins, he didn't contradict anything Starmer said yesterday. The rest of the day and probably all bloody week will be filled with the media desperately trying to keep this b*llocks alive until polling day.
At least, there's no need for at least, it puts a different spin on what you're reporting. All you need to say is Robbins corroborates the PM's statement. It wasn't a claim, it was a fact, this is the problem with journalism.
Robbins does at least corroborate PM's claim that no minister was told of the vetting issue with Mandelson. He confirms he did not share it with them.

Listening to Olly Robbins being questions by Emily Thornberry this morning, a few things stand out:
1) Robbins was the decision maker to give security clearance to Mandelson despite the vetting recommending it not be given. He alone made that decision, discussed with no one more senior.
Yet another frenzied hysterical attack designed to get Kier Starmer out has failed. Good to see.

The key point from Olly Robbins is that, in his view, Mandelson did *not* technically fail vetting - the vetting outcome was the FCDO decision on whether to grant, not any UKSV recommendation as part of that process...
This morning I’ve seen Olly Robbins’s appearance before the select committee described as ‘box office’, while a commentator flagged up another key political moment with the words ‘bring the popcorn’.
That’s one of our main problems right there.

Listening to Olly Robbins it makes me wonder what sort of people run the civil service. When he says he could recite the whole of the Civil Service code of conduct as well as the Common Book of Prayer, then he lost the room for me anyway.
