There's always a tradeoff between quality and accessibility. I love that I can put my games on @itch.io for FREE, and if I want to sell them, they don't take 30% . I also love how I don't need to submit 100 different versions of the page and game to chase constantly changing secret rules.

Games stopped really using the hardware improvements by 2010 or so. The most recent 3 games I can think of that actually innovated on a gameplay basis to take advantage of improved hardware are Minecraft, Noita, and, somewhat ironically, Battlefield 1942.
