Helium Is Hard to Replace The war in Iran, and the subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz, has unfortunately made us all familiar with details of the petroleum supply chain that we could formerly happily ignore.

How are you going to spend your Saturday? If you were me, you’d be reading all about helium, from the science behind this element to how MRI machines use 17% of the helium in America.

Well that was a much faster review time than expected. Still plenty to do to prepare for launch though, so April 22nd is still the day for Plinky 6!

"I'm just going to let people be wrong on the internet" remains the single most difficult New Year's Resolution I have ever made, hands down. Nothing else comes close.

Plinky comes to Mac All your links in your pocket, and at your desk Launching April 22nd

It's taken a lot of work but I'm excited to announce that Plinky is coming to the Mac on April 22nd. In a world of half-hearted web apps and vibecoded slop, I doubled down on making Plinky a Mac app that feels right at home on the Mac. And I can't wait for you to try it out.

I actually told them they could update to macOS 15 because they were still on macOS 14.2! The rest of their life choices are out of my control. 😐

one thing that's kinda funny is the way Nixon was taught at least to me i thought of him as a strictly historical figure but he died in 1994. kinda funny to imagine him watching dave coulier slime wil wheaton on the nickelodeon kids choice awards.

My coworker just suggested we "set a trap" for the guy who keeps stealing lunches from the break room fridge. Brother you are Tom and Jerry brained. We are going to HR.

The latest Plinky beta brings a bunch of improvements to the Mac and iPad. Say hello to a new sidebar design that feels right at home on macOS, along with a brand-new pinned section to help organize Folders and Tags. And of course I've added a myriad of keyboard shortcuts across both platforms.

Black text on a white background. The text reads: "I was not initially inclined to feel very bad about data centers, which have existed as long as the internet has. Much of the infrastructure of our modern world is not pretty, and that’s OK with me because we all reap the gains. But as I spent a morning driving around Loudoun County—the data center capital of the US, which houses roughly one data center in every two square miles—with photojournalist Stephen Voss, I finally got the distate. The data centers are just so close to where people live, looming over suburban backyards and sports fields and sidewalks and schools. Two years of loud construction, two decades of noise. You stand there and hear them hissing, whirring, rattling, beeping. Some have cheap American flags draped over the side, and others are painted a bland ecru, a flimsy attempt at fading into the background. In compute hubs like Loudoun County, trees have been chopped down and high-voltage transmission towers put up. Mazes of power lines hang over roads like steel cobwebs."

This a great read about the looming cultural crisis around AI, but also a meaningful anthropological lens into how SF and DC have different roots yet very alike.

So happy we could help make it worth your while! We both really care about the open web and making sure that your links are safe, secure, and transferable between all the apps you care about. And as a plus — you should expect a dedicated reader mode to come in Plinky’s near future. 🙂

Put out a new beta of Plinky for Mac yesterday (plinky.app/mac/beta if you haven't tried it yet!). This latest build adds something all Mac apps need — keyboard shortcuts! And all of those keyboard shortcuts are coming to the iPad as well, for all you magic keyboard wielders. ⌨️

My apologies for anything that wasn’t as clear as it should be. Can you point me to where I use that language so I can update it?

I do my best to be explicit that you can save on any device (which is true), while your links are accessible from iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
