"AI does [thing] as well or better than I do." is really not the claim people who make it think it is.

Sir Rod Drury says relationship with employee was consensual, raising CEO conduct questions Ex-Xero CEO says ‘other relationships’ were consensual and mutual but would not say whether they were appropriate

It was an ‘in joke’ he targeted young female employees. She made a complaint to Xero through their whistleblower process, made a complaint to police, there was a power imbalance as he was company CEO but it was consensual he says. #nzpol www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3609...

there is something uniquely offensive about the notion that you are obligated to read an article with an inflammatory headline before you can be upset at it

That infamous anti anti-AI blocklist had a special sub-list for people who use anti AI "slurs"

The AI boosters are serious about this, to the point of petitioning the very confused UK parliament to declare the use of "clanker" a hate crime.

I mean that worked out so well for Gina Carano.

1. They are so open about it they blocked everyone who pointed out that LLMs produce slop code not fit for major production
2. You have made assumptions, you've stated you assume the devs are infallible so nobody should doubt them.

Why is the average person who wants to know if it's vibe-coded supposed to go research all the code, data structures, management algorithms and security to work out if its good or not?

Why do you think contributing to a site with recent, massive outages is a guarantee of infallibility?

Broccoli, pears, kumara, sweet corn and bananas all for $15

Broccoli, pears, kumara, sweet corn and bananas all for $15

$15 from the local fruit and veggie cooperative.

I think that's a great deal, definitely worth looking into whether you have one locally.

More money goes to the grower and not a retailer too

Chris Hipkins announces Labour will back India free trade deal Chris Hipkins says the party will help National pass the deal, but that it still has concerns.

Labour are just so spineless and uninspiring

This unnecessary capitulation on the Indian FTA and steadfastly refusing to compromise on their ridiculous weak sauce CGT are completely ridiculous

If you are after change then you simply must vote for @greens.org.nz or @tepaatimaori.bsky.social

George Washington’s Woke Vaccines What the Founders would have thought about Pete Hegseth lifting the requirement that service members get the flu vaccine.

Hegseth's repeal of universal flu vaccines is nonsense on so many levels, but his claim vaccine mandates were an "era of betrayal" irked me as a historian. Here's my response, in @thebulwark.com this morning;

Exclusive: University of Queensland scraps Indigenous children’s book, citing controversial anti-Semitism policy The University of Queensland has decided to pulp all 5,000 copies of a children’s picture book written by an Indigenous poet, after media queries from News Corp’s _The Australian_ newspaper that levelled accusations of anti-Semitism against the book’s illustrator. It’s a decision that also marks the first time a controversial definition of anti-Semitism, adopted by Australia’s universities last year, has been cited as the basis of a book cancellation. _Bila, a river cycle_ , was written by award-winning Wiradjuri poet Jazz Money and illustrated by Matt Chun. It’s an environmentally-focused book that tells the story of a river’s journey from mountain to sea and the people who pollute the waterways. Money and Chun began work on the book in 2022 and it was due for release this year. Jazz Money, the author of __Bila, a river cycle.__ In January this year, Dymocks announced that it was removing all of Chun’s books from its stores after he wrote an article titled “We don’t mourn fascists” in the aftermath of the Bondi terror attack. After the Dymocks announcement, _The Australian_ approached University of Queensland Press (UQP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University of Queensland, to ask about _Bila._ The chair of UQP, Professor Heather Zwicker, told the newspaper that the publisher had, “put the proposed publication on hold pending the outcome of an internal review and external legal processes underway,” effectively suspending its publication. ### This post is for subscribers only Become a member to get access to all content Subscribe now

The book's author has described the decision to pulp all 5,000 copies of the book as reckless and disrespectful, and says it "sets a chilling standard".
