Your Guide to NASA's Budget How big is NASA's budget right now? What was it like in the past? How does it compare to the rest of government spending? These answers, as well as…

While we're talking percentages, let's talk about the proposed cuts to NASA's science budget.

NASA is currently 0.36% of US federal spending. www.planetary.org/space-policy...

The proposed budget cuts NASA science by 47%.

NASA science is already on a shoestring, and that string is about to break

When you’re tempted to suggest that we should forgive and embrace MTG because she’s turning on Trump

Remember that she rose to prominence in part by fueling hate and harassment against families who lost children in school shootings

Great to hear! I hope you keep going and that it's fulfilling. I've tried to get some writing in, but it's fits and starts. Feels better than nothing though.

how ridiculous for Tampa Bay Lightning fans to chant "USA, USA" last night against Montreal Canadians? Montreal has more USA born players than Tampa, and Tampa has more than half its team from Canada.

A depleted Space Force races to prepare for Trump’s spending spree The six-year-old service is hiring like "there’s never been a tomorrow" to execute a potential budget boon.

Almost like wildly chainsawing at the federal workforce can have negative consequences. Who could have foreseen this

Gotta have a whomp whomp? 😂 I agree with you and also might add/consider "that and a dollar will buy ya a cup of coffee!" type language that anchors pricing in the brain for some generations.

something that’s really been wild to me, as someone raised in the ‘freedom of religion’ usa, is how my other nation, the U.K., quite literally has a state religion and is somehow a hundred times less religious functionally than the USA

To add a little detail for curious followers, that's the control room previously used for shuttle; the ISS mission control is down the hall. (It has an observation room as well.)

Saw a reel making fun of people who were expressing skepticism of the #Artemis II images in Instagram comments and while it's true that a lot of folks are just spreading conspiracy theories, there are misconceptions that can just be addressed directly!

Everything you need to know about the Strait of Hormuz About 20% of the world’s oil supply travels through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iran War threatens to cut it off. The history of the Strait of Hormuz, who controls it and how it became so critical to the global oil supply.

I thought some of that was covered in this episode: www.wbur.org/onpoint/2026...

The use of “hallucinate” is a stroke of true evil genius in the AI world.

In ANY other context we’d just call them errors & the fail rate would be crystal clear.

Instead, “hallucinate” implies genuine sentience & the *absence* of real error.

Aw, this software isn’t shit! Boo’s just dreaming!

One hopes images like this, when paired with the knowledge that everything we burn ends up in that tiny slice of gasses, would help contextualize why we need to move away from energy sources we set on fire.

One hopes. Climate communicators should make some hay of this.

I wonder how much that has to do with "good enough description" versus "math and scale and location are difficult to represent without technical jargon"

the issue is that the language he used has the feel of nukes (civilization ending), and the president has no constraints to using them unilaterally. We used to try not to elect crazy people for this reason. I think its perfectly appropriate to yell about nukes.

I had to tell a member of the cast of my community theater group this same thing . If you shut NASA down, redistributed its budget to other priorities, the agency's budget is so small it wouldn't make a dent in those problems, we lose an agency that puts back more $ into the economy than it takes.

NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.
