Indeed, there are, sadly, intractable social problems, but smartphones in school are not one of them. They have a 'see it, hear it, lose it' policy that works, but gives teachers room to make allowances for positive use. I'm disappointed for my kid who will see her education further degraded.
I think the problem is that different schools have different challenges and a blanket ban removes flexibility. My kid regularly uses their phone to take photos of their class-work to continue at home. The behaviour of other students is so disruptive the lessons are never finished.

My kid was keen to do the survey. Unfortunately, she was just
rejected as 'not meeting the criteria for continuing with the survey'. What a negative message to send to a young person keen to have their say.
PFAS pollution in a drinking water source near the old Denham Film Studio, so high the source had to be taken out of use.
That's a water source that was providing 20 million litres a day to London, a city where water is already becoming scarce.
