There’s at least 2 sequences that make me cackle with glee. Love this so much.

I prolly like NORMAL the most out of his action movies. That said it is just also pretty well calibrated to proper levels of "my shit". Mileage may vary.

A ★★½ review of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) Not as bad as I had expected, with some fun top tier Chinese talent and a not terrible idea for switching up the formula. But ultimately it is a formula and there’s fairly little spark or life.

Wheatley came onto the project after it had already been written but at the SXSW premiere he said he wanted to do it because he likes trying a variety of genres and this is his western.

I’ve seen HARD-BOILED no less than a dozen times on many different formats. Watching it on Arrow’s 4K UHD is like a religious experience for many reasons but honestly this new translation is a revelation that makes it like seeing it for the first time. It hits harder and sharper than ever!

#BEAST is a real Stallone-ass, JCVD-ass 90s throwback fight film and I had a blast watching this on the big screen. Will have to learn about lead Daniel McPherson as I’ve never known of him before. Came to see Bren Foster’s villain + choreo. It all clicked for me!

Okay having looked this dude up I’ve seen films or series’ that he’s been in but as STRIKE BACK is a blind spot for me, so too was Daniel Macpherson.

A ★★★★ review of City on Fire (1987) This was a blind buy / first time watch for me via Arrow 4K UHD. Just couldn’t get my hands on it in the 90s and never pirated it or whatever.  This looks like it was lit, shot, and restored by God.

Philip Kwok is the stunt coordinator for HARD-BOILED and his Mad Dog character is quite possibly my favorite henchman in cinematic history. A fully established terror and man of action, who also has a code. Like 5 lines of dialog and an all-time character is born.

Can’t say I’ve ever cried my way through the finale of HARD-BOILED before, but that’s what happens, I guess, when you simply experience awe.

I’m mid-watch but I just had to put this out there. They talk like humans! It just clicks so much better than it ever has even though I never knew I needed it to.

It’s not a single small thing, it’s like everything. The jokes make more sense, the plotting is clearer bc the subs sound the way real humans talk. I had no idea how much it would improve an already 5 star masterpiece.
