a Trump post that says "has anybody looked at how badly the country of spain is doing. Their financial numbers, despite contributing almost nothing to NATO and their military defense, are absolutely horrendous. Sad to watch!!!"
stupid Trump tweet for many reasons but one of which is that Spain had higher GDP growth than the US over the last year (3% vs 2%)

Russia is razing the cities it is conquering to the ground. It is turning the Donbas into ruins. What an insane imperial war of conquest.

BREAKING: Federal Bill Would Put Big Oil Above the Law | Center for Climate Integrity
Republicans Introduce Legislation to Give Fossil Fuel Companies Immunity from Any Laws or Lawsuits Seeking to Hold them Accountable for their Role in the Climate Crisis
Republicans know they are about to lose the House and are trying to give Big Oil its holy grail: legal immunity from any futures actions that would hold the industry responsible for the climate crisis it knowingly caused and is making worse every day.

Good morning with good news: Solar globally grew by 600 TWh in 2025, largest ever rise from any source, excl rebound yrs.
RE & nuclear growth was more than total electricity demand growth.
Fossil fuel generation DECLINED!
RE = coal generation!

EE 2.2 Consious Uncoupling
Breaking the link between gas and electricity is easier than you think
This is a good read by @samalvis.bsky.social, and this is basically what I think on the whole “decoupling gas and electricity prices” thing.
The first best answer is “build more renewables and flex”, and we’re making a lot of progress on that

Excited to attend the ribbon-cutting for the next segment of California’s solar canal initiative later this month in Hickman. Imagine generating solar power over 4,000 miles or so canals across the state. A lot of Sierra and Colorado River water to save via avoided evaporation.

Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X
Because we get asked a lot.
The Technological Republic, in brief.
1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.
2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.
3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.
4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.
Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

We all know Trump lies about everything ceaselessly and with impunity, but this is especially galling since it's been so obviously false for decades and because it's so dangerous to the entire planet.

2. stop drinking. alcohol is a class 1 carcinogen, same as cigarettes and asbestos. it will wreck your sleep in a way you won't understand until you're older, or in a way you already do. it's not actually making you better at socializing, just dumber and less appealing in those situations.

Jesse Peltan:
"China has 1.5 terawatts of solar, more than 5x the U.S."
"China built ~0.4 TW in just the last year, more than the U.S. has in total."

As the head of an intergovernmental agency, Birol has to be careful about the words he uses. So when he says "There is a disconnect," you can imagine the dialogue in his head.

Physical crude prices have set record, as @roryjohnston.bsky.social has noted. But, if after at least four weeks of knowing that an oil supply shock is fully baked in, the front-month price doesn't yet reflect it, something about the pricing system is broken, surely?

Most analysis of the Iran energy crisis is still treating it as a price shock, rather than as a hard, physical constraint. We are about to experience something unknown in our lifetimes.

For years, but especially in the last few months, I have been trying hard to imagine what it will feel like seeing Orban decisively defeated. I just couldn't. And yet here we are: it is truly and well over. I have more reservations about Peter Magyar than I could say in 300 characters or a thread...

Ah, Trump is finally showing his true master. Makes sense. Think of the seven deadly sins - pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth - Trump embodies them all.

Opposition leader Péter Magyar at a rally.
Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise.
He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media.
The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.
