I applaud when umps who clearly aren’t watching the challenging player in the immediate aftermath of a call recognize they didn’t see them and still grant the challenge (as Brian O’Nora does here) instead of ruling it was too late.

Gavin Williams has 10 strikeouts through seven scoreless innings, and these are numbers I never expected to see all at once, even if only a week into the season.
Shohei Ohtani, who’s 3-for-15 with six walks and no extra-base hits to start the year, is taking BP on the field today, something you rarely see him do.
Vogt on DeLauter: “Chase was obviously sore, but negative on the X-rays. So, foot contusion. Tomorrow was a planned off day for Chase anyway, so this will give him two days off.”

DeLauter update: X-rays were negative. He left the game with a left foot contusion.
Rookie sensation Chase DeLauter fouled a Shohei Ohtani fastball off his back foot. He tried to stay in but couldn't run out a grounder and then hobbled straight down to the tunnel. He's now out of the game.
