This is why I don't understand the notion that these men are only just now revealing themselves. We have not had a period in our history absent naked atrocity, and their response now is the same as it ever was: apathy, entitlement, and cowardice.

Stories are just a good way to emphasize empathy. They force you to look at a situation through the lens of a character with whom you might not have all that much in common. History is often presented as just a series of events, which is really unfortunate. It's all stories, too.

IIRC Walmart also gets a tax credit for employing SNAP recipients. AND since they're one of the biggest grocery stores in the country they get a lot of money directly from SNAP when SNAP recipients grocery shop there. So, they benefit from SNAP coming and going.
