I had the book unread for years, but happened to see the film first. It's definitely coloured my opinion of the book. I wish I'd read it first. (Both are ok, but I could see the film too clearly whilst reading the book)
Did you see the film? I saw the film first so it was odd reading the book

"These nights, the whistle got the coyotes started, and then the wolves."
"The Good Men" can be read as a riff on the 1962 film, "Les Bonnes Femmes", directed by Claude Chabrol, but with the genders reversed and the action relocated from a Parisian domestic appliance store to a Birmingham garage...
Only a fiver (plus postage) here: www.salopress.com/store-2/the-...
For those who have been asking if the film "Union City" is available to stream (in connection with my book on the film, of course), then I've been advised it's currently available here: rarefilmm.com/2018/10/unio...
And then buy my book :)

For those who missed the unboxing yesterday, my copies of "Union City" arrived. It's truly a beautiful book! It's not only about a film, but about filmmaking itself. I hope those who read it enjoy it!

I was one of the judges for the 2025 Otherwise Awards and we've now reached our decision over the winner, the honour list, and the longlist. It was really interesting whittling down the 161 considered works to this number. Some great reads here!
Great to see my novel getting some visibility!
One of my favourite albums! Couldn't resist using the title.
Well this is interesting!
