Out of the loop On failing to keep up

The nearby Ring of Brodgar - I hear the stones are fenced off now to protect the ground they stand on - and these stones are so full of deep time you can feel it. Orkney has wonders ancient and modern and I'd go back in a heartbeat. Just avoid the cruise parties.

Sitting in The Strand (pub), unsubscribing from Substack subscriptions, which is like pulling teeth, with Call Me F****** Al on the jukebox. Worst Sunday drinks since the Tina Turner tribute act.

I had this idea that, sooner or later, Trump would literally or figuratively be "run out of town on a rail". We did it to Boris Johnson, who's not in that keague -- what's the hold-up, America?

Is this blister actually named. "Chip"? Am no expert, but actual Jesus, the one that wasn't born in Ohio, drove the moneylenders out of the temple and would have had opinions on this idiotic and malicious rubbish. I am, of course, an atheist.

In the pub. There's a dispute, namely, "Where's my Guiness?" Turns out the barman had, oddly, heard "Innes" and poured a glass of Innes and Gunn, a lovely Scots oddity. Meanwhile, thirsty me. If Gunn had been the senior partner, we'd be there yet.

It seems you can only read Samuel Beckett sober, which seems all wrong.

It's like Captain Pike in The Cage. Two bleeps for yes, one for no, are no basis for a form of government. Yet the USA is either MIA Democrat (boo) or MAGA (hooray).

What is the endgame in this toxic immigration debate: is it friends and neighbours thrown out of the country? | Jonthan Liew The notion of remigration was abstract, but the right is dragging it towards respectability. If the goal is homogeneous whiteness, they should say it, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Liew

In England and Wales, there are just 53 villages that didn't need a war memorial after WW1, later called The Thankful Villages. Has Trump just invented the Thankful Schools?

Carries the whole "Rail Replacement Bus" joy within it. From "a whole weekend of football" to "Moldova v Wales" is an odd journey.

I love a country that can thrill to Sandy Denny and Neneh Cherry, Massive Attack and The Beatles. I hate the poisonous old gits in my local who would defund the RNLI and who'd give a second of their time to that nasty grifter Farage.
