I'm used to the AI pitches about people who can promote me to their book club or blog or offer vague marketing services, but this is the first time someone has impersonated an actual journalist

That's surprising to me tbh

an email from "Jacinta.Parksons.abcmelbourne@gmail.com" that reads "Dear Camryn, I hope hope you’re well.

My name is Jacinta Parsons, and I host conversations on ABC Radio Melbourne, where I speak with authors about their work and the ideas behind it.

What stood out to me in your work, particularly in Friday I’m in Love, is the energy and warmth in Mahalia Harris’s journey as she navigates identity, belonging, and the desire to celebrate herself on her own terms. The idea of a coming-out party as both a personal milestone and an act of joy brings a refreshing and empowering perspective, while the balance of romance, friendship, and real-life pressures gives the story both heart and relatability.

I’d love to talk with you about how you approached capturing Mahalia’s voice and experiences, and how you balance themes of self-discovery, love, and cultural identity. I’m also interested in how you developed the story’s blend of romantic comedy elements with deeper reflections on community, expectation, and personal growth.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, I’d be delighted to arrange a time that suits you in the coming weeks.

Warm regards,
Jacinta Parsons

good advice for writing anything honestly

Give yourself time to write a terrible draft and then walk away for a day or two and let your subconscious keep working. Then you can come back with fresh eyes and tinker tweak

But the stakes of being terrible when you’re writing a draft are zero because no one knows! It’s just you and you!

I'm surprised by that tbh. It's also like as a young woman I wouldn't want to apply to a school in a state where I wouldn't have access to abortion, should I need it

Yeah I know it's probably a losing battle but I do like to keep privacy when I can

I know I'm preaching to the choir but it's extremely depressing and dispiriting that you can spend your entire career developing and strengthening certain skills, only for the market or whatever to suddenly do an about face and render them obsolete.

I like Jonathan Daviss a lot (as a watcher of Outer Banks) but this biopic feels so weird especially since Snoop is still alive

I really don't understand the argument. Why lean into something that's going to take your job? Like, she and Reese don't have to worry about that (now) but below the line workers definitely do. And it seems like hey have no solidarity for those workers who make their movies.

Reese Witherspoon Doubles Down on Telling Women to Learn AI: Jobs We Hold Are ‘Three Times More Likely to Be Automated By AI’ Reese Witherspoon is again advising her followers that there's no time like the present to start learning about and using artificial intelligence.

“the jobs women hold are 3x more likely to be automated by AI, yet women are using AI at a rate 25% lower than men on average. We don’t want to be left behind”

Using the (ethically & environmentally 👎) technology that’s replacing your job won’t save your job. What is she even talking about?

The infinite growth model is one of the worst things to happen to journalism/media. At some point you reach the ceiling of people who want to read your magazine! You can just make enough money to pay people well and publish things and not grow forever!

more attention should be paid to Chandler Levack, whose second and third features — Mile End Kicks (which she also wrote) and Roommates — are being released ON THE SAME DAY, one in theaters and one on Netflix. I don't think a director has ever achieved this feat before!
