HOLY COW is refreshing for refusing to "psychologise" its characters. They're not overdetermined, they feel human. A generous approach that also comes through in the way Louise Courvoisier talks here about power dynamics on set & her responsibility in representing sex. She's wise because she cares!

Sometimes things just line up
CA4 embargo is up so I can say it's quietly one of the most conservative marvel films with an overarching plot about forgiving hardball, right wing politicians because they're having their strings pulled by scientists - weird!
As The People's Joker finally goes global, the maverick filmmaker behind the wildest superhero film of the year sounds off about microbudget filmmaking, the trans canon, and Joker 2
Already there it's pretty good stuff

Caring about the Oscars is a fundamentally silly thing to do. Everybody who enjoys them KNOWS they almost never pick the actual best picture of the year, nor a movie that will last for all time. But sometimes they DO pick a Godfather or a Casablanca or a Parasite. It's part of the fun.
Nooo I really love The Familiar please hold out because I think you'll like the ending 🤧🤧🤧
Soderbergh’s official press head shot is *perfect*
Rose Byrne laying on a beach in a still from Mary Bronstein’s IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU.
IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU: Rose Byrne gives an astounding performance in Mary Bronstein’s nightmarish, funny, and devastating drama (which already has distribution through A24). It's the best thing I've seen at the fest thus far 📽️

It actually is very important that you do things that you take pleasure in, regularly. That is part of how you survive the things that feel like they are going to destroy you.
Getting inordinately excited that I recognise two people on the Brighton team for the Christmas University Challenge
