Oh, really? Thanks, Sherlock.
Still, I'm not holding my breath for a Game Pass price cut any time soon.
I also hope its tier system will be simplified: one entry level, one high level. Ideally, subscription services shouldn't be overly complicated.

Capcom strikes again.
Loving what I'm hearing about Pragmata, especially how it's a contained experience that doesn't overstay its welcome.
Another one for the 2026 backlog list!

This movie sounds like it could be a nostalgic disaster.
Even so, I still totally need to see it to know for sure.

RGG Studio is the clear highlight from this week's Xbox show & continues to be an industry powerhouse; Stranger Than Heaven looks great, even in a quick trailer like this.
Artificial Detective, The Expanse & Moosa: Dirty Fate also stood out to me here.

Yet another price increase in the industry, this time PlayStation.
The world is backwards. And I don't see it changing soon, unfortunately.
I'm also curious about the timing considering next gen is, what, < 2 years away?
Maybe Sony's bean counters see something I don't 🤷
After a few hours, the fact that Crimson Desert is like eight different games crammed into one somehow makes it its own thing.
I don't know if I love it. I just know I can't stop thinking about it.
Also: It's going to sell gangbusters. Like 20M+ units. (It's already at 2M.)
(It moved to 82 in the time it took me to post this, hah.)
Crimson Desert reviews are posting.
Starts at 84 on OpenCritic, though there are certainly more critical takes incoming.
To be honest, I'm checking it out soon no matter what, and is it wrong that I'm even more excited to see it's a bit divisive?

"All of that is in the control - direct control - of the game developer"
"This is very different than generative AI; it’s content-control generative AI. That’s why we call it neural rendering.”
Modern tech exec word salad physically hurts me to read 🙄

Even anecdotally, it feels like Pokémon Pokopia is getting a whole lot of good buzz lately.
Now we know it's translating to sales. 2.2M units worldwide, including 1M in Japan alone, in 4 days.
(Retail shipments + digital downloads, I'd imagine.)

Don't worry, developing 2025's best-selling game in the U.S. will surely guard against people losing their jobs, right?
🙄
There is something fundamentally broken about an industry, a system, whatever, where even success doesn't lead to security.

Huge, record-breaking early sales for Resident Evil Requiem at 5M.
I'm loving this entry, and it's the first one in the series I've played alongside my fiancé. Turns out apparently she isn't afraid of anything, whereas I remain nervous at all times 😄

I can't be the only one who had to look up whether this was an actual shot from the Amazon God of War show, or if was an AI rendition of it, right?
Guess that's just how the world goes in 2026.
Capcom's impressive streak continues, this time with Resident Evil Requiem, which starts at an aggregate score of 90 on OpenCritic.
I've been mostly on media blackout, since I don't need any more convincing hah.
Who else is there with me day one?

September is earlier than I expected for Wolverine, given its exemption from the recent State of Play.
(Even though, I know, Insomniac implied ahead of time that it wouldn't be there.)
Great time slot for PlayStation's 2026 blockbuster. I'm way upbeat.

Some highlights to me in Circana's Jan 2026 U.S. games report:
Spend +3%.
Content +3%. HW +16%.
Boosted by sub revenue gains.
Switch 2 rev growth.
PS5 #1 in $ & units.
CoD: Blops 7 #1.
Code Vein 2 #11, only new entry in Top 20.
Solid start to the year.
While Spencer, & to a lesser extent Bond, oversaw Xbox during a tumultuous time of layoffs & failed direction, I don't think keeping Booty & promoting an AI exec is what it needs to recover.
The end of an era; I'm not sure the next will be better.
🤷♂️

I get PlayStation is "operating in an increasingly challenging industry environment," as Hulst says, though this is a direct result of prior management & decision-making around a misguided services push.
Sending my best to all former Bluepoint employees.

I always enjoy reading Mat's work at Circana.
His team expects U.S. games market +3% in 2026, to a new high.
Assumes Switch 2 carries momentum & GTA VI in Nov.
I think both of these will happen & lead to out-performance, even amidst price pressures.

If today's State of Play had a Resident Evil Requiem demo and a better finale, it would have easily earned a 10/10.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Control Resonant, Yotei Legends, Pragmata, Project Windless, Saros & more, so many banger trailers!
blog.playstation.com/2026/02/12/s...
Remedy Entertainment:
Control Resonant is ongoing in full production, and is scheduled to release this year.
Max Payne 1&2 continues in full production. No further word on release timing.
Remedy also has a new project in the proof-of-concept phase.

What is everyone guessing will be at the (beefy) State of Play?
I'm thinking:
Marathon open beta.
Wolverine date. (July?)
Marvel Tokon date (Q4?)
Yotei Legends date Q2.
RE Requeim demo out now.
At least 2 Microsoft games.
Bold: Sony Santa Monica tease.

PlayStation FY 25 Q3 highlights:
PS5 units -16% to 8M.
HW revenue -15%.
Still, Q3 gaming operating profit +27%.
Yotei launch 3.3M units, outpacing Tsushima.
Drove digital SW growth of 6%.
Total MAU up to 132M.
PS5 lifetime 92M, trailing PS4.
Raised FY sales & profit targets.
I'm loving the Nioh 3 demo; it's a fantastic evolution of a series that was already exceptional.
The open approach encourages exploration, expanding both level design & gear discovery.
Reviews are up. 87 on OpenCritic. Yet another Team Ninja banger!

Here's a couple articles I'm referencing that talk about the marketing kicking off in a few months.
www.ign.com/articles/gta...
www.gamespot.com/articles/gta...
In today's financial report, Take-Two reiterated Grand Theft Auto VI's date of Nov 19th.
There's also media reports its marketing push will start in the summer.
Personally, I'm betting it hits this date, just in time for year-end awards & holiday sales.
www.take2games.com/ir/quarterly...
Fantastic reporting from VGC, as always.
Some standout items:
Quick Switch 2 pace even with slower holiday.
Switch 2 FY unit target unchanged.
MKW > 14M. 80% attach.
Kirby Air Riders 1.76M. Nice!
MP4 < 1M during Dec.
Switch OG now #2 on all-time HW list.
Great 9-month result.
Xbox revenue is down in Q2.
Overall: -9%
Content & Services: -5%
Hardware: -32%
Its broader More Personal Computing business unit even saw a 3% revenue decline, the only segment without growth, with gaming being a main reason mentioned in slides.
