Musk, worth $829 billion, owns X.
Bezos, worth $234 billion, owns The Washington Post & Twitch.
Zuckerberg, worth $231 billion, owns Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp.
And now Larry Ellison, worth $202 billion, is about to control CNN, CBS, TikTok & HBO.
Yes, this is oligarchy.

In light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, RLC decided to remove the abstract deadline: rl-conference.cc/callforpaper...
The only deadline is for the full paper: Mar 5(AOE) openreview.net/group?id=rl-...
Affected folks may also contact the PCs to discuss deadline extensions before Mar 5.
Trump has launched an illegal regime change war in Iran with American lives at risk. Congress must convene on Monday to vote on Rep. Thomas Massie & my WPR to stop this. Every member of Congress should go on record this weekend on how they will vote.
eg: I’d label recent comments from Chamath and Kara Swisher as both being MM-brained. Driven more by anger than logic.

The fine-grained MoE scaling law would imply that % active params continues to get smaller.
DeepSeek is at ~5% active. Anyone beating that?
That’s already getting into neuromorphic territory, even if the shape of the activity might be a bit more “blocky” than spidery like you would see in biology.
First post on @bsky.app :). 🤖 Now in #Science #Robotics: 90% energy reduction using our neuromorphic #LENS system! Robot positioning with tiny storage & power needs. For disaster zones, underwater & space. Sustainable #AI inspired by our 20-watt brain! 🧠⚡. Read more: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
On @chrislhayes.bsky.social, I called on @schumer.senate.gov to support @kaine.senate.gov, @sanders.senate.gov, Rep. Massie & my resolution opposing a war in Iran. This is a defining moment for our party where too many blundered in supporting the Iraq war.
Now we need to be clear — no war in Iran.
Btw, team MIT is in the lead - help team World take their rightful spot!

** Co-sign and invite AMD to the neuromorphic party: forms.gle/f8yGWt1cB8bU...
** Make a pledge to neuromorphic research: forms.gle/eNdqwDPWsC8F...
Today, May 27 is the deadline for both of the above.

YOUR 30 watt noggin flexin’ its might.
Ever an EXEMPLAR in speed-of-light.
Ladders to the moon in hindsight went NOWHERE
It was BRAIN-like chips that landed us there.

Dally’s FOLLY is now history.
In contrast to Intel and AMD.
STARTUPS too, round the field out
Of HYBRID AIs - without a doubt!

Team Caltech or MIT?
What a FALSE dichotomy!
Team WORLD was where it’s at,
Progress needed many a hat.

Sigma delta nets: THE first gem.
Then mixture of experts: A MILLION of ‘em.
Sparse SSMs so DAMN efficient.
That’s how neuromorphs made their first MINT.

In other words:
Plasticity rules like Oja's let us go beyond studying how synaptic plasticity in the brain can _match_ the performance of backprop.
Now, we can study how synaptic plasticity can _beat_ backprop in challenging, but realistic learning scenarios.
Anyone else interested in academic funding drives that lean into tribalism as a tool for good (and wallet opening)?
What other strategies are people taking to help our academic friends in need?
#projectphasor
One thing I’m trying is the #NeuromorphicRivalryFund which will pit different schools and programs against each other on a specific funding topic, but it would be nice if there was a network of such efforts that could gather more attention together.
How should America heal its own academic wounds more than China will?
Research ultimately benefits the world, but funding sources get to peek into the future a little farther and bias academic freedom in their favor. A slight edge in an exponential growth curve separates the winners and losers.
There’s more Chinese grant money in US academics than many realize and I bet it will be less taboo for professors to accept Chinese funds now, given their dire straits.
In the spirit of friendly rivalry, ...
Who would donate more in a pledge drive for Neuromorphic AI research? MIT alumni or Caltech alumni?

I spend a lot of time disparaging those who are failing us in this moment - but today I want to shine a light on all of those who are helping to make the threats to science and universities legible for other scientists and the public🧪 1/
Any good neuroscience/NeuroAI discord servers I should know about? I feel like the neuroscience town square on bsky is a bit of a ghost town
Now do this for NIH and NSF.

This isn’t particularly useful but, well, I hear from a lot of people from the science-centered agencies these days (NIH, NOAA, EPA, couple others) and the degree of, I dunno, grimness (?) is really palpable. The whole gov scientific enterprise is just getting ground into dust. It sucks so hard.
My lab is looking for a PhD candidate, in collaboration with Bernhard Englitz's lab.

My PhD student's NSF grant was terminated today. Her dissertation investigates why air pollution monitoring, metrics, and regulations don't properly capture the harms experienced by marginalized communities--esp in the most polluted Detroit neighborhoods. She and I are happy to talk with press etc.
