Not in our experience over 20+ years. Rats and mice shit constantly as do bats & koala. But our marsupial carnivores don't shit anywhere near their nests. We have a nest in our lounge room been used for 15+ years, I recently used an endoscope to formally ID culprit & no smell & bugger all pooh.

They are carnivores so only eat other animals & insects etc.

They never chew wires or plastic & their nest has no scent at all ie: being carnivores they don't want prey to detect them. Their nest is always dried leaves as opposed to rats, plastic & string. They are great to share your home with.

We have had antechinus in our ceiling for 20+ years. Firstly that animal appears to be small, antechinus size is between mouse & rat. So could be a mouse or a planagale, which is another beautiful tiny marsupial. If you have good guys the rats & mice aren't around. As carnivores they eat baby rats 😜

Antechinus is a small marsupial carnivore, their nest always consists of dried leaves. They look like a small rat but they have nothing in common and in fact one the most obvious differences is their nest has no odour.

The fresh air fan in my old Hilux started to make strange noise... Antechinus nest didn't help.
