No, they were bought by private equity, the land got separated and rented back to them, and they were forced to use supplier equity firm owned. That's pretty much the standard playbook for such acquisitions. "Red lobster" has no choice in the matter.

Red Lobster is going to cling to the "endless shrimp" B's until their dying day (which will be 12 to 18 months from now), because they're too embarrassed to admit how badly they effed up by selling the land the restaurants were on.
What? They didn't close down because of endless shrimp, they were forced to shut down because they stupidly sold the land that their restaurants were built on during the pandemic, pandemic ended, company that owned the land started charging exorbitant rents.
That's what happened.
