Fifty-seven years ago at The Ark in Boston. First of a three night run. Excellent recording of exemplary 69 Dead. Jerry’s slide on Hard to Handle is especially evident (though I read somewhere this was the last time he used it), as was the Foxy Lady jam.

Fifty-four years ago yesterday (sometimes life kind of gets away from you) from Denmark, with a middle portion of the show being broadcast on national television. That and a 30 minute Dark Star towards the very end of the show.

Fifty-seven years ago, from Purdue University. A power outage in the middle of the opening number set thing back forty minutes, but the band came back, restarted Hard To Handle, then into Morning Dew, and things back to “normal” 1969 Grateful Dead.

Fifty-four years ago, the 5th show of 22 on the Europe 72 tour. Can you say University cafeteria?? Stakladen, Aarhus University in Aarhus, Denmark.
A great Good Lovin’, as well as a Truckin’/Other One that a reviewer described as “massive”.

It is Zero Wednesday, and thanks to Charlie posting those Phil shows with Billy & Paul, and the start of Little Feat tour, I was in the mood for this Allen Toussaint tune. Always loved the line “all the dudes you misused in the way up, you might meet up, on the way down”.

Remembering the “Rock n Roll Doctor”, Lowell George, on what would have been his 81st birthday today. Singer/songwriter, slide guitar whizz and founder of Little Feat.
“Two degrees in bebop and a PHD in swing,
He’s a master of rhythm, he’s a Rock n Roll king…”

A beautiful David Crosby Monday to you! From the wonderful Capitol Theatre DVD, is the band’s take on David’s classic, Guinnevere. Originally written, I believe, for Christine, David spent all of his later years dedicating it to his lovely wife, Jan.

Fifty-seven years ago at the UMC Ballroom in Boulder, CO. A Lovelight opener, and “another” stellar 23+ minute 69 era Dark Star.

Good morning! It is Brothers Jam Sunday, and while Jamey works more of his editing magic on a few other tunes from The White Eagle last week, I bring you this. Special thanks again to Adam King for stepping in last minute and helping the Brothers out!

Fifty-four years ago. Night 3 of the Europe 72 tour moves to Newcastle. Pigpen in fine form for Mr. Charlie early in set 1 and a “Feelin’ Groovy” jam in The Other One in set 2.
Bob supposedly referred to this crowd as the stiffest and coldest of the tour.

As promised, here is the version of “The Blue” I chose for you this morning. I picked this vocal version by Oscar Brown Jr. who wrote the lyrics.
I specifically chose this for Brothers Jam. We’ve done the instrumental version before, and would love to try the vocal version.

I was going to grab an Afro Blue to post for Afro Blue Friday, and this popped up in my YouTube feed. Never seen it before, but it is oh so sweet with these two guitar masters harmonizing together. Enjoy, and I’ll be right back with that Afro Blue.

Taking some time this morning to remember Stuart Sutcliffe, 64 years from the day of his passing. Stu was the original bass player in the original five man Beatles, and a best mate of John’s. He left the band in July of 61 to persue his art. Stuart died of a brain aneurysm.
With Charlie’s release of the Phil Lesh & Friends Warfield Theatre from 10/7/99, it has me listening to the show from 10/8/99, that opened with this amazing cover of the Miles Davis’ Milestones.
Take my word, get these shows!!

Additional tracks were added to the 1992 CD release.

Fifty-four years ago yesterday the album Graham Nash-David Crosby was released. Recorded in Wally Heider’s using a number of the same folks who appeared on Crosby’s If I Could Only Remember My Name, including the Dead.
A great David Crosby Monday to you!

Round 2 this morning, jumping from 1969 out to 1994. From Orlando, FL thirty-two years ago. The previous night’s show cancelled due to Bill’s dad passing. Great Help/Slip/Franklin’s opener, Days Between is always a joy, and Throwing Stones/Not Fade Away.
