April Wilkens has spent 27 years behind bars for killing her ex-fiancé — after years of abuse, stalking and calls to the police that went nowhere.
Her story underscores a legal experiment in Oklahoma, where a new law called the Oklahoma Survivors’ Act offers prisoners like her a chance at freedom.

Dilley is evil and must be closed. It's a goddamn concentration camp. A moral abomination. People are going to Hell over this.
The selfishness of MAGA. Just like during the pandemic, they don't care if other people get sick or die, as long as they're not inconvenienced or discouraged from their illogical beliefs. That, combined with their incredible ignorance and gullibility, hurts all of us.
How shall we do for money for these wars?

I suspect the Pope sounds "woke" to many Christian conservatives because the US is steeped in prosperity theology, where the point of worship is to deliver health and wealth to believers. Thus, "feed the hungry" and "show mercy for the poor" sounds needlessly political and "woke."
I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

A huge number of cradle Catholics I’ve heard talk about him—lapsed or not—have gone on to talk A Certain Way about adult converts, and I think non-Catholics don’t really understand this part of the culture because Protestantism is so much more loosey-goosey about a lot of this kind of stuff
I maintain that among the media's biggest mistakes has been continuing to ask Trump questions as if he's a normal guy instead of asking things like "Can you explain who Jesus is" or "Describe the process of pumping gas"

what else can we get JD to do this weekend
the Hungarian super-majority margin is going to be thin enough that it is quite possible that JD Vance going there got enough people to the polls to spite him to make it possible
for sure, congratulations to magyar. but the real heroes imo are those in civil society & journalism & rank-and-file opposition & academia who have fought against the disintegration of rule of law, the weaponization of the courts/media, & so much more for so long. 🇭🇺

Boston Globe mock front page from April 9, 2016. Date says April 9, 2017, with giant headline “DEPORTATIONS TO BEGIN” and “Markets sink as trade war looms.”
Ten years ago today, in April 2016, the Boston Globe printed a satirical front page imagining a future Trump administration. The page was called "alarmist," "hyperbolic," "dystopian." But we’ve put up with so much since then it now looks like . . . a slow Thursday?
