Is anyone using an AI site that generates images from abstracts that they happen to like or recommend?
For my California Friends. SB 895 is a California Bond Act to create $23 billion dollars for science funding in California. With enough signatures we can get the support of legislators and the Governor and get the bond on the November ballot. Anyone that lives in California can sign.
It’s so tough and I’m worried too.
Our upper division undergrad class on drugs of abuse have to do student presentations. These guys went all out with creativity!
Last morning before back to reality
Sunday, November 9, 2025, Cure Addiction Now is sponsoring a free event open to the public. This is a chance to listen to a panel of scientists discuss many latest advances in helping to cure addiction. See registration link: cureaddictionnow.org/the-raw-trut... #CAN, #SUD, #CureAddictionNow
If anyone has a lab manual they are willing to share (or even in part), please send to cmcahill@ucla.edu.
I’m specifically interested in graduate and undergraduate expectations, lab culture and safety.
This paper does a great job with a "It's a Wonderful Life" scenario about NIH, supposing the consequences of the bottom 40% of the funding NIH grants never existed.

tl:dr The world would lose a lot, but directly and indirectly
BREAKING: A federal judge has ordered Trump to restore $500 million in frozen UCLA NIH grants. The same judge, Rita F. Lin, previously ordered all UCLA NSF grants reinstated. Lin has now nearly entirely reversed Trump's July de-funding of UCLA research: www.latimes.com/california/s...
Fantastic news!!
Found someone! Thanks Christie Fowler!
Any ACNP full members that still have an invite available to sponsor me to go this year?
Can someone provide further insight/analysis of this announcement ? www.statnews.com/2025/07/29/t...
few outcomes, except for 99% of FDA-approved drugs, 174 recipients of 104 Nobel Prizes, training ~30K MDs and ~10K PhDs per year to enter the workforce, and a 34% reduction in age-adjusted cancer deaths since 1990 -- the largest decrease in history
Our paper showing decreased KCC2 expression in the human spinal cord in people who died with a history of neuropathic pain is now published in PAIN: journals.lww.com/pain/abstrac... Great work from @oliviadavis.bsky.social and the teams of the De Koninck and Hildebrand labs. ❤️ 🇨🇦 collabs!
Does anyone know if this means that NIH grants terminated due to DEI might be reinstated?
Congratulations to all my undergraduate students who presented today at the Semel undergrad poster day! All did so well and should be very proud of their accomplishments! Great day for the Cahill Lab!!
Further evidence (as if you needed any more!) that people should quit X as their platform.
This was driven by my very talented graduate student Myra!
I'm advertising for my daughter to recruit subjects for her Master's thesis. I'd very much appreciate a repost. She's exploring how a simple mindfulness technique could help reduce cravings and stress levels for daily e-cigarette users.

Is there any evidence that protracted withdrawal precipitated by opioid dependence is worse if you precipitate withdrawal with naloxone versus undergoing spontaneous withdrawal?
Canada offers fellowships to foreign grad students and postdocs. Have a look and share with anyone who could be interested or who is affected by the current situation in the US.
I just listened to the first lesson on tyranny (outstanding). Fellow scientists, we should all add DEI values and pronouns to our lab websites. www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
On March 15th, many people will mail Donald Trump a postcard that publicly expresses opposition to him. Everyone has their own motives to be upset with his bad leadership decisions. I will send more than one: Protection of Science, National Parks, Transgender rights and Foreign policy.
Today! Stand up for science! We had a great turn out in Westwood federal building!
