I released a short paper today presenting two new Canadian dashboards that aficionados of the economy might like. It could not have been built - not by me anyway - without the new Claude coding tool from Anthropic. The paper is free on my Substack page. philip635.substack.com/p/two-new-ca...

Move the research to Canada, EU, and other places then.

Why might a MP decide to switch to another party in the midst of a trade war? There are variety, but trade vulnerability of their area is an obvious one, even if it otherwise seems odd. See an earlier Cdn Chamber of Commerce BDL article. businessdatalab.ca/publications...
Cool to see a convenience store that closed in the underground below Portage and Main is re-opening at the sidewalk now that people are allowed to cross the intersection.
Black-and-white photo of George Chuvalo and Muhammad Ali boxing in the ring. Ali, on the right, is mid-punch with his right glove extended toward Chuvalo’s head. Chuvalo, on the left, leans slightly back with his guard partly raised, his face showing impact and strain. Both men are shirtless, wearing boxing gloves and trunks, with sweat visible on their bodies. The ropes of the ring and a dark, indistinct background frame the action.
The Muhammad Ali - George Chuvalo fight on March 29, 1966 at Maple Leaf Gardens was legendary.
The fight went the distance, with Ali calling Chuvalo the toughest man he ever fought.
After the fight, Chuvalo went dancing, while Ali went to the hospital.
This is the story.

Oh, this is one of the potential housing initiatives I'd like to support if I get elected to Vancouver city council. Smaller size is key, I think. They have 180 homes on three sites.

What do rising oil prices mean for Canadian households?
In my latest for @TheHubCanada, I estimate the costs for gasoline, energy, and (just as importantly!) all other goods and services throughout the supply chain. Overall, about $1,000/yr/household.

Housing, in Halifax, NS. (In Winnipeg, mall sites are now rezoned for midrise development as-of-right, delivering on Mayor Gillingham's commitment to allow our vast sea of mall/corridor surface lots to be used for new housing density).
Prime Minister Carney, Prime Minister Støre, and Chancellor Merz pose for a photo while observing a NATO Operation Cold Response exercise in Bardufoss, Norway.
Prime Minister Støre, Chancellor Merz, and I agree: by working together, we can better protect and defend the Arctic and High North, and ensure the security and prosperity of the entire region.
You could pipe some crude to the other side of Saudi Arabia, but it still would only solve part of the problem.
We’re building and securing Canada’s North. We’re taking full responsibility for defending our Arctic sovereignty, and developing the region’s critical minerals, clean energy, and trade corridors – with, and for, the security and prosperity of its people.
Beyond the success of the 15-minute city, we developed the framework High Quality of Life in Society and, with UN-Habitat and UCLG, a methodology based on sustainable proximity.

That is good news.
Prime Minister Carney meets with Prime Minister Takaichi in Tokyo, Japan.
Prime Minister Takaichi and I are launching an ambitious new Strategic Partnership.
Canada are Japan are going to work together in defence, energy, critical minerals, trade, and technology to unlock enormous opportunities for our workers and businesses.
That was 60 - 70 USD/bbl. 150 will be much more "interesting" if it lasts very long.

One of the best ways to make life more affordable is to increase your purchasing power by creating higher-paying jobs.
To do that, we’re securing new trade partnerships, attracting massive investment, and fast-tracking major projects.
During the pandemic, inflation shot up globally. The cost of everyday items went up, and wages didn’t keep pace. That created an affordability problem.
We have a plan to fix it.

Getting rid of street cars was a big mistake taken by many cities at that time.
Portals should be installed before the last intersection so drivers have an option to turn on an alternate route instead of straight into the viaduct
The Greene Avenue viaduct in Westmount is hit at least once every 2-3 months disrupting exo trains for hundred of commuters for many hours 🙃
Second time a truck driver hits a low bridge causing a disruption on REM service
Can I suggest a cheap solution to prevent this in the future?

Canada’s new Defence Industrial Strategy will transform our military and defence supply chains — creating good careers at home, opening new markets for our businesses, and equipping the Canadian Armed Forces with the world-class equipment they need to protect Canada and our Allies.
Well, here is a rather interesting addendum to the Davos speech: Talks led by Mark Carney to create an EU-TPP super-bloc. Sans the U.S. www.politico.eu/article/eu-a...
Hope you feel better soon.
