A cat paw reaches for a dish of butter
Hello friends! I’m going to send this week’s substack out soon if you want to get on board. Short and sweet fiction with fantasy elements to keep you mind off The Horrors. Link below. Sending love to you all.
Sitting in the ruins of a birthday party for my four year old. Balloons and confetti everywhere. My bed is covered in hot dog vomit. Laundry and dishes await. Check out my substack. open.substack.com/pub/astridro...
Hiding in a hole until I have more spoons. I think you’re all delightful and I hope you’re taking good care of yourselves ❤️
I just watched “death on the Nile” tonight. You are simply wonderful. Thank you for bringing so much joy to the world with your art and just by being you. Thank you for leading with such a brave and kind heart. Wishing you and your family a peaceful day tomorrow ❤️
I won’t be on bluesky tomorrow. Taking the day off from social media and news to read and walk in the snow. Sending love to you all. We’ll get through this ❤️
Good morning friends ❤️ I’ve started a substack. It’s free. I’ll be posting short fiction and fantasy stories about once a week under the pen name Astrid Rooke. Come join, I would be honored to have you!

Thinking about America. Thinking about Sophie. Wondering what she would say if she was still here. Thinking about Luigi. #freeluigi
I haven’t been able to find that one to watch it (I don’t have any streaming services) I’ll try to get it from the library! I’m such a big fan of Maggie smith and Judi dench being sassy bitches in the first one.
He looks like a thumb. He also looks like he belongs in assisted living.
Two of my faves!!! I also love the movie version of room with a view with Maggie Smith.
Thank you!!
Poetry lovers! I’m looking for recs. I love Seamus Heaney, Rimbaud, Mary Oliver, Robert Burns, Rumi… where do I go from here? Favorite classics? Guilty pleasures?
I wonder if any Phillip Pullman titles would work too? (Golden compass, book of dust)
Moonlight Market (Harris) fun fairy filled adventure romp. Sabriel (Nix) dark and beautiful, all time fave! Akata Witch (Okorafor) and Children Of Blood And Bone (Adeyemi) are two very different stories but both deal with relationships between mortals/immortals/magic users really beautifully.
Red Rising was fun! I only read the first three but I think there are several in the series. Kind of Enders game/hunger games meets Roman mythology kind of vibe.
Thing number 867 I am only just learning: you can read a little bit and then move on if it doesn’t catch you. Your TBR pile doesn’t need to be your prison.
Thing number 868: but why is my TBR pile still so large
Cat among pigeons (Christie)
Agatha Christie bio (Worsley)
Maltese Falcon (Hammett)
A room with a view (Forster)
Poisoners handbook (Blum)
Moonlight market (Harris)
Beowulf (Heaney trans.)
Carmilla (Le Fanu)
📢 yo where are my Agatha Christie nerds at? Where are my Poirot nerds at? Where are my Marple Lore Scholars at?
Just a small wayfairing skunk navigating the harsh wilderness of an uncurated feed… who’s writing a fantasy/myrder mystery novel? Who’s trail running? Who’s looking for the perfect knitting project for their black lace weight alpaca yarn?
Don’t do that. There are a lot of traumatized people out here reliving their worst nightmares because of this news, don’t make light of it.
All of this is so hard to take. Both as a citizen of our united dumpster fire but also as an abuse survivor. You are constantly told to “be the bigger person” and “not to stoop to their level” and just keep you calm even when they behave horribly… I want someone to dump a truckload of sewage on him.
Is LGBTQIA+ friendly?
For the low low price of $0 you too can own an authentic Holmes
Happily, this is a better thought than the other garbage that I was thinking about
Is there a starter pack for cozy people who love Carmilla and A Room With A View and Death On The Nile and crave croissants and rain and murder mysteries and tea and friendship bracelets and cheese and murder and baking cookies
The sh!t just keeps hitting the fan. Navigating a divorce, starting a new career, and *gestures at the rest of it* is really taking its toll. What’s everyone looking forward to?
❤️😭❤️ thank you for sharing that
Every. Single. Time.
