Final piece of the puzzle, thanks to a local authority. Off now to convince the #CWGC that a soldier who was classed as a deserter needs to be recognised. 20 years service. Awarded MM. Took his own life in 1941. NOT recognised by #CWGC. Needs to be changed and headstone erected.

Buried in Washington State, USA. MURDERED in Hertfordshire, England. Private Conrad “Chief” Pascal, a Native American Indian, died at the hands of a comrade on 3 August 1943 while building the Nuthampstead airfield. His killer received a life sentence, but never served it in full. #Militarycrime

Nijmegan bank robbery? And there was me thinking "Kelly's Heroes" was fictional!! Part of a document dealing with Discipline in 21 Army Group. Makes interesting reading. (WO 229/4). It appears that some of these crimes were actually carried out by Dutch civilians. Worthy of a bit more research.
Busy week.

Staff Sergeant Frederick Paice BEM. Serving with the RASC, he was awarded a BEM for his work as a short-hand notetaker, responsible for recording verbatim notes at a large number of court martial cases. Many reports we see today are thanks to the work of men & women like this. #MilitaryCrime
