Emory AAUP members’ letter saying “Protect our community from ICE!” published in Emory Wheel student newspaper.
A group of faculty and students gathered behind a dark blue and white banner that says: “Emory AAUP Defending Academic Freedom.” Many students and faculty hold signs condemning ICE and Flock.
The @emoryaaup.bsky.social showed up at the DeFlock walkout on Friday at #Emory. They demand that #Flock cameras be removed from the campus. @aaup.org @decaturish.bsky.social #gapol @ajc.com

FUN STORY!
When I started @standupforscience.net Emory leadership instructed the Wheel not to cover me or the protests we led around the WORLD.
I asked for support & Emory sent General Council to meet with me and then refused to allow the NYT photographer onto campus...BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE...
Boston University, where I teach, has been taking down Pride Flags from faculty and office windows because of a new “content neutral” ban on public-facing flags and banners.
This is a bad policy that infringes on free speech. Faculty are protesting. Today the President defended these actions. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Flyer with photo of protestors. "Flock Cameras Spy for ICE. Deflock Emory! Teach in: Wednesday March 25 5 PM, Math & Science Center 502. Emory has installed at least 7 Flock ALPR cameras around its campus and hospitals. These can cameras track vehicle and pedestrian movement. Flock data is recorded in a national database accessible by ICE and law enforcement. Fight Back. Sign the Petition (QR code)." Graphic of a bird with a camera head.

This is Rice's international students' office's policy on student's rights on campus to be free from federal immigration enforcement. We are asking questions of our administration with the aim of getting these reassurances. Does your school have a policy?

“I came to the United States for freedom of speech and freedom of scientific inquiry,” she said. “To be repressed like this here too has shaken me to my core.”

Reinstate the Fired Six at VSU!
Six tenured & tenure track faculty members were abruptly fired at Virginia State University without cause or any semblance of due process.
Sign this petition to demand their reinstatement & a public commitment from VSU to honor tenure & end arbitrary dismissals.
The abrupt revocation of a job offer to the University of Arkansas’ incoming law school dean prompted a student-led protest on the Fayetteville campus Tuesday and calls for the school to adopt a policy to prevent undue influence on personnel decisions. #arpx #arleg
This is a genuinely huge, sweeping victory today for the University of California—or rather, for us, its faculty, acting through our faculty associations, while the UC itself maintained a strict policy of deer-in-headlights silence.
The Trump admin has given up its appeal of a powerful injunction:
“There's not a single existing textbook on the market that could be used that would qualify under state law?”
Mind blowing interview with FIU @grundrza.bsky.social about the insanity going on at Florida universities. 🤯
cz.boell.org/en/2023/05/1... Where else were professors stripped of tenure? That would be in right-wing authoritarian Hungary. Make no mistake Gov. Stitt's removal of tenure at Oklahoma regional & community colleges & universities is an authoritarian attack on ideas presented in college classrooms.
When Texas Tech faculty sought clarification on new restrictions limiting how race, gender and sexuality can be discussed in classrooms, administrators said they could offer little guidance, according to two internal emails reviewed by The Texas Tribune.
New: Former Texas A&M lecturer Melissa McCoul is suing the university months after Texas A&M fired her over a gender identity lesson.
McCoul alleges that administrators knowingly violated her free speech and due process rights to appease political critics.

The college at which I'm employed, which has signed a contract with the AI firm that stole books from 131 colleagues & me, paid a student to write an op-ed for the student paper promoting AI, guided the writing of it, and did not disclose this to the paper. www.thedartmouth.com/article/2026...

AAUP Emory stood with students calling on university admin to take a stance against the rising presence of ICE and to support community members affected by raids.
“The Emory community, this campus, is our state, our pocket of democracy. ICE isn’t welcome here.”
