My book Freeform Overshot for Beginners describes how to create large scale pick up designs with or without tabby.

I use weaving software with a 64-end (“shaft”) threading (1-64 diagonal) and a liftplan format. I create designs in the drawdown.

My very first project was a stream-of-consciousness spirals project, my Mermaid Scarf.

It’s only one layer, just like shaft loom twills.

So, they are not from Indigenous art pieces. They’re old money now sold for bead artists.

The beads were currency. Some was worn, of course, but whole strands of beads have been traded and sold for a long time. Many bead shops, including online, have such bead strands for sale, as well as single or multiple beads. They’re everywhere and impossible to trace at this point.

Antique beads traded in Africa in the 1800s, mostly. The red translucent faceted bead is a vaseline/uranium trade bead. Vaseline for the shiny look, uranium because some of these beads are slightly radioactive and black light sensitive. A number of other glass styles were popular trade beads.
