A Lot Of Americans Aren't Sold On This Whole Car-Centric Life Thing After All - Jalopnik We live in a society designed for and built around the automobile, and many people don't seem very happy about it.

End anti-freedom, anti-choice, deadly, costly, big government car ownership and driving mandates.

NOW.

"More than half of Americans are at least willing to consider giving up their cars entirely."

Advocacy for road safety improvements is exhausting and demoralizing sometimes when your neighbors are against you

But this is what we're doing it for

Today's ignorant naysayers claim "that'd never work here!" when in fact it once did before it was intentionally dismantled for the benefit of the auto industry.

Increasingly of the opinion there’s a lot of low hanging fruit in upgrading the light rail systems we’ve been building for the last 30 years into something much closer to metros

I agree, AND if we can pry Rail/Transit out of State DOTs and properly fund them, we would have the capacity to do that.

I maintain that we actually do have the money, but it just needs to come from Land Value Capture from the parcels within a 1-2 mile radius of the stations.

California‘s Enhanced Infrastructure Finance Districts are the exact system to replicate in OR/WA

the president of the united states is personally looting the treasury to the tune of literally billions of dollars and that he is not being immediately removed from office and tried for high crimes against this country is a devastating indictment of every part of our political system

Really well done! As a “late” Clojure adopter (2018) it was nice to see its true origin story, and to see how this constellation of ongoing contributors formed.

The #1 reason for delays for /Oregon/ Cascades route are due to lack of double-tracking in Washington.

evergreen graphic for north american jurisdictions seeking to build primarily grade-separated low-floor light rail systems because they know no other alternative for 21st century "flexible" rapid transit

“Approximately 4000 people die in CA every year because of car crashes, 25% of which are pedestrians & bicyclists. Prioritizing safety for all road users should be a no-brainer, & the convenience of drivers shouldn’t come before the wellbeing of others” - Buffy Wicks

We need more electeds like her!

"Dutch Disease" is, famously, not a good thing!

Give everyone a free E-Bike, and you'd cut demand in half (50% of trips in the US are under 3 miles)

When Oil Gets Expensive, Cities Get Better
When Oil Gets Expensive, Cities Get Better YouTube video by Not Just Bikes

Finally, when your city starts to look there are more people zipping around on e-bikes and biz start using cargo e-bikes, get your city transpo. dept. to replace the areas of your city that have been taken over by the dino-juice gobblers with human-centric spces.

Also give businesses/families zero-interest loans / tax credits for cargo bikes:

DOE should use just $1B that we would have spent on the war buy everyone an E-Bike.

50% of trips by US households are under 3 miles.

You could cut demand for gas by 50%, that would deliver $3/gallon gas by the summer.

$9/gallon gas is the floor, likely going over $10/gallon in the coming summer months.

Get your summer e-bike now before the rush!

These 'millionaires' are also the first ones to oppose new housing in their well-to-do neighborhoods and cities, the first to use CEQA to sue to stop development.

How many of these @patrioticmillionaires.org will finally see the light and start joining the YIMBY movement to build more housing?

Searching for the ‘Smoking Gun’ in US Pedestrian Deaths Why did American streets get so deadly for those on foot or bikes? A leading transportation safety researcher sees some surprising factors behind the crisis.

Why do so many Americans die while walking?

To find out, I spoke with University of New Mexico’s Nick Ferenchak, who leads the only US research center focused specifically on pedestrians and cyclists.

TL;DR: Fast urban roads are a huge factor, and car bloat amplifies risk.

this is a boring take but if we want this from a Dem President in 2029 we need to deliver the type of huge legislative majority Magyar just achieved and not the razor-thin one that Biden was forced to work with.

@trimet.org now's the time to stat investing in full-length fare gates rather than spend millions of "fare enforcement officers" that do nothing

Notice how the most celebrated and successful space mission in *decades* was run by at least 50% “DEI hires”—not all white men? And not even all Americans. Maybe diversity *is* strength . . .

Weight based registration fees are a no-brainer, but then you’d have the SUV / Truck nutters threatening to shoot any politician who passes it.

Better to just eliminate access for SUVs on Greenways and local roads in the name of street preservation/safety.

On Greenways, it’s quite easy. Put up bollards that are smaller than the average SUV/Truck width so they would damage their car.

Nearly got run down by this asshole SUV diver on a Neighborhood Greenway who was gunning it.

The speed bumps did nothing to prevent him from ripping through.

Who will have the courage to #BanSUVs across our city?

This isn’t an accident. It’s a design choice.

Stop manufacturing, selling, and buying these machines.
