i guess this a cultural development no less sinister than, say, pop stars jumping into acting. famous people try to launch careers in the movies on the basis on of their fame all the time. then again, if i have to see Mr. Beast on the big screen i will cry

anyway with jacksepticeye's Bloodborne movie coming, i guess that is indeed the lesson Hollywood execs learned, and they're probably right in thinking that youtubers & e-celebs can easily leverage their extant audiences and persuade irregular moviegoers to attend
sorry for the hater post, but back when the markplier Iron Lung movie came out, i saw people hoping Hollywood doesn't "learn the wrong lesson", which is a baffling takeaway. it was based on an unknown indie game and got middling reviews. what lesson is there to learn except popular youtuber = money?
good luck all my friends who care about elden ring re: the "do they put the wolf in the movie and do they make him hot" stakes
for me personally, i think reading good criticism & talking with people has been the most important part of becoming better at understanding art. and a lot of it depends on if you're watching/playing stuff outside of your immediate comfort zone that challenges you with new ideas and ways of working
So I was watching the 1993 Finish Made For TV adaptation of The Lord of The Rings, and thought everyone should see the moment where Gollum falls into Mount Doom.

Saw this news and I had to make a rough sketch about it. 🥹 We humans always underestimate the empathy and care of other animals..
and if you ever watch anything on this list you're morally obligated to let me know what you thought
i don't know how self-promotion works or how much of it to do but i wrote this a few weeks back! read if interested!
happy birthday!!

This was always the coolest movie opening, “this movie is so good that a lion has endorsed it” you’d think
Inside a dark hexagonal frame, Elder Tilman (a hare) glares sidelong at Elder Hartley (a deer), who stares straight ahead, looking stressed, and holds up his hand between himself and Elder Tilman. Concentric hexagons vanish into the distance behind them.
Campo Largo Route 2: Bifurcados, Ch. 1-6, is now available to the public!
Elder Hartley has had enough. One more morning and he'll have solved his companion problem.
Just needs to get through a lesson with this Iván guy first...

i don't know anything about the show, but there's some really good analysis of what fandom is and how dominant fan modes of engagement come into conflict with art not catering to them here

sooooo sorry everyone, bluesky was overheating and i thought the network was waterproof so i threw it in the pool
with how well bluesky is feeling today, will anyone even see that i watched RENDEL: CYCLE OF REVENGE letterboxd.com/purkka/film/...
good news children: mommy's doing some "vibe cooking", so dinner will be here about 2.45 % faster unless the kitchen burns down and most likely inedible
google search preview for status.bsky.app reading "We are investigating an incident with service in one of our reginos." [sic]
bluesky is down so i can't even post about how they misspelled "regions" on their status page that is also itself not loading
i will binge them all at some point i think... we need to go back to the source and figure out what's going on
i've never seen a Rohmer despite like 50 % of the directors i love having named him as a direct influence
crevice
looking forward to seeing CREVICE (2028)

it's an ongoing frustration of mine that the umbrella of "fandom" absorbs our community when it's quite different in not being defined by a relation to an intellectual property or even any specific piece of art or story. furry is more like a post-fandom
i don't know if i need to clarify, but it's worth noting that this does not apply to, say... the furry fandom, where we make & monetize our own stuff and our shared cultural touchstones are largely non-copyrightable things like the concept of wolves
Same applies to furry authors. Read outside the community. Read different genres. Read the classics.
