Avi Lewis: "We have shoved Canada Post so far into the market mindset that every few months we have a national conversation about why isn't Canada Post making money. Does the ambulance service make money? Do the police services make money? We're talking about a fundamental public service."

You have discovered a planet. It is a sphere without affliction. 8 moons dance beneath its young sun. Would you like to smile there?
Now that CNN and WBD are set to become state media in a sale to Paramount/Oracle/TikTok, it is especially important to support independent media.

A dozen Special Olympics donuts with coloured sprinkles, white icing and whipped cream (minus the one I ate), go grab one at Tim’s.
The sweetest way to give back and support @specialocanada.bsky.social — go grab a donut this weekend and #ChooseToInclude @timhortonsofficial.bsky.social
Hey friends, can I ask you all to give our @littleghostsbooks.bsky.social Crowdfundr a look? Any amount helps us with our workspace renovation plans, if you're not able (which I understand!), if you could share the link that would be amazing. Love you all! 🤗🧡 👻📚

A wheelchair labelled “Sick Kids” sits abandoned in a pile of snow at the side of the sidewalk. Hopefully a “the sick will walk” situation!
Sure! Thanks.

January 24, 2026 at 18:42 Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti "We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the 'hero' term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump's murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.
For those who haven’t seen it yet, a heartbreaking statement from the victim’s parents.
I went to see After Hours (Scorsese, 1985) for my 12th birthday. Really wasn’t ready for that. But that and Blue Velvet probably put me on the road to film school.
Okay. I need a boost here.
Looking for artists.
We're talking about some potential comic book style art and/or concept art for the #iHunt film. We're privately funding development, so budget isn't Hollywood.
I want queer and/or nonwhite artists. I want cool styles.

Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.
It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.
And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd

Shohei Ohtani just came to my house and hit a home run, wtf man, take it easy.
Honestly, walk Ohtani for the rest of the series
“America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, 'It ain’t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.' It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: 'if you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?' There will also be an American flag no larger than a child’s hand – glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register. Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves.”
reading slaughterhouse 5 for the first time and i was absolutely knocked senseless by this passage, which is so true and relevant that it feels like it was pulled from a history book
