The arthropod armada approaches...if you know your stuff, I suspect you can tell exactly which genus is involved even from the blurred image!

using vertebrae spines as a food-processor is probably the most creative way to use a backbone I can think of!

One thing I admittedly fudged here was the skin texture. We know what the scales of these animals looked like but I just got and used an old skin brush lol

As someone who isn't great with hadrosaurs, both skulls were drawn around IRL specimens - NMC 8705 for Lambeo and AM 5240 for Cory. Both are from papers from, like, the early 1900s, but the head shape is as pertinent as ever, I suppose.

In a forest of conifers, a yellow-headed Lambeosaurus magnicristatus raises its red-margined cockscomb crest above a herd of brown-and red striped Corythosaurus, with its semicircular crest. They're all marching who-knows-where, and who even knows how the lambeosaur got there? He sure doesn't.

Both these skulls should be basically public domain photographs, so far as I can tell.

They're moving in herds...they do move in herds.

I like how so many of the Beastieball birds are Australian. You got Kichik the lil' cassowary, Sefren the fairy wren, Bindiva the ibis, and i mean, Garood is literally a cockatoo kangaroo.

Rutile itself also gives me mild outback vibes lol

reposting this because i think its cool

initial intent was to have taxonomic groups ally with each other (dinosaurs, mammals, etc), but as of late I've been tiring a bit of the "warring dynasties" rhetoric that pops up in paleo stuff every now and then

but if the organelles are essential to their communication, maybe? if they can't see like most real amoebas, maybe they'd just depict their "anthros" as chemically coming across more like one of them in the important parts

i feel like it would be based on what makes a character "expressive"! the biggie with "anthros" is that it lets an animal gesture in a way that humans can read as, communicating...if the amoeboid organelles are like human organs, making the anthro transparent is like covering up a glass frog anthro

I’m really proud of this one’s color scheme. That specific shade of blue with brownish-green kelp works really well I think, and I’m excited to learn more color stuff in the future!

Macrodelphinus, a long-snouted dolphin the size of an orca, play with kelp ~23 MYA. Kelp forests are a new ecosystem that appear mid-Cenozoic.

what do you mean pollen is actually technically its own independent male plant??? (i think) what do you mean the scales of a pinecone are basically just weird analogues to fern fronds???

2 weeks ago 4 0 0 0

plant reproduction is fucked up man, what do you mean they make their gametes with meiosis and have a second formerly-independent life stage that was internalized into more derived forms' reproductive structures??? what do you mean the gametophyte literally gives birth to a little sprout???

Here's a preview of one of my artworks coming up soon. It's meant to signify the rise of Cetacea and kelp!

Significantly simpler than some of my previous illustrations, but I'm experimenting with new brushes (from Visign). It's good stuff, and they even have a big PDF of art tips for free I think!
