This Wednesday I’ll be talking about Indigenous health and incarceration experiences. I show how holistic health models - including cultural and community-based supports - are crucial for supporting system-involved people and for confronting the structures driving Indigenous mass incarceration.

Happy to receive a SSHRC IDG supporting a new project with my colleague Sandra Bucerius. It's (tentatively) about how current political trends complicate traditional understandings of the left and right. The project centres on German populism and involves interviews with AfD and BSW supporters.
Anti-Trump, pro-immigration, but still “far-right”? Canada’s penal populism and current problems defining "the far-right”. Irish North-South Criminology Conference, Dr. Justin EC Tetrault, Assistant professor of sociology Law, Crime, and Justice Studies University of Alberta Augustana, Canada.
Giving a talk tomorrow about far-right politics in Canada at @maynoothuniversity.ie. It's about penal populism as a form of far-right politics and how "far-right studies" often suffers from presentism. #maynoothcrimcon #criminology

Excited to share I’m joining @sfu.ca's School of Criminology, where I'll have the opportunity to expand my research programs and teach graduate students. I have made lifelong friends at Augustana and will deeply miss my colleagues, students, and community partners. Looking forward to the road ahead!
for onlookers: the red spike is the Liberal Party of Canada.
maybe I’m misunderstanding - are you arguing that this data shows how Trump dramatically strengthened Canada’s right-wing movement?
I understand your frustration for sure. My perspective is maybe more optimistic about certain reforms/small changes. Anyhow, even though we might differ on this, I really enjoy your work.
Who is arguing that voting solves everything? And what am I in denial of? I think its important to help maintain the already minimal but urgently-needed supports we have for street-involved people. Budget reductions are often fatal.
I think voting to block parties that slash social services is pretty important.
I recently wrote about how extremism studies increasingly eclipses social science, as writers favour flashy concepts divorced from sociological traditions — like 'salad bar,' 'lawful,' and 'anti-government' extremism. This article does something similar, using simple concepts to assert broad claims.
