Such a weird institution. It’s effectively a ceremonial diarchy

Right but I think the point is that the principles are never *really* safe. You can drown the other side in drones all you want but the flip-side is that you’re never truly safe from their partisans deploying a loitering munition out of a van and hitting you while you’re at lunch.

Both ways?

It’s not here yet by any means but a lot of very powerful, extremely evil people are openly slavering for a future where a monopoly of violence is directly held by a handful of people

The future of warfare and the death of the citizen soldier. Hmm...I dunno but all this seems like it may have larger social and political ramifications.

Black-and-white group portrait of ten men posed in two rows against a dark backdrop. Five men sit in the front and five stand behind them. They wear suits and ties; one man in the back row wears a uniform with a peaked cap. The men have short hair and serious expressions. A newspaper or placard rests against the knees of the seated men, with large visible text reading Free the Winnipeg Six Rioters and smaller, less legible text below.

In 1933, residents in Blairmore, Alberta voted in Canada's first communist town council.
The council brought in relief payments for the unemployed, replaced Remembrance Day with a celebration of the Russian Revolution and put a tax on purebred dogs.
This is the story.

Oh man oh man oh man this is why everyone's talking about the minions

why would you make this film. why would you do that. you didn't need to do that. canonically the minions were lost in siberia or some shit. why would you even touch the interwar period. oh no.

It’s deeply surreal how there’s this global crisis rippling across the world but few governments or institutions feel like they have the permission structure to acknowledge it without the say-so from Trump loving day traders.

Living in Alberta is kind of like being the protagonist in Nightmare at 20 000 Feet except everyone else on the plane knows about the Gremlin too and is just kinda whatever about it.

Once they do this, the gloves are off. They don’t have to even pretend to care what the cities think after this. It’s full Qanon fever swamp time after this is done.

The notion that we control our relationship with technology rather than the other way around is deeply nonsensical. Technology has deeply shaped our behaviour patterns ever since the invention of flint tools.

Every study that’s been conducted on these things has shown they fry our critical thinking abilities.

The people who own these things will have unimaginable leverage over the rest of us, having surrendered our understanding and competency to them, even as the information bubbles they create for themselves with this same tech drives them deeper and deeper into insanity.

My issue with the ‘AI just needs to be regulated’ crowd is that AI erodes the conditions under which it could conceivably be properly and effectively regulated.

A generation of professionals and legislators that ChatGPTd their way through their education almost definitionally can’t do this.

One thing steam engines also didn’t do is directly preclude the general population from understanding how to operate and utilize steam engines.

If I was PM of a G7 country, I think the part of the job I'd enjoy most would be pretending that the bilateral partnership with Luxembourg is very important

The 1920s is maybe the worst decade you could pick because that’s basically when the entire rogues gallery of the 20th century were cutting their teeth.

Fascinating how the narrative in the 90's was that nerds were the downtrodden good guys, and we come to the present, and a handful of male nerds are perhaps the most powerful and dangerous bullies in human history.

In my new film THE MINION CANNOT HEAR THE FALCONER, we'll explore the way in which the emergence of 20th century ideologies fractured the once-cohesively evil Minion society into competing fascist and communist blocs that soon come to blows over which form of totalitarianism will shape their future.

The GOP is the natural governing party of the United States and the Dems are annoying interlopers at best.
