My issue with the ‘AI just needs to be regulated’ crowd is that AI erodes the conditions under which it could conceivably be properly and effectively regulated.

A generation of professionals and legislators that ChatGPTd their way through their education almost definitionally can’t do this.

One thing steam engines also didn’t do is directly preclude the general population from understanding how to operate and utilize steam engines.
