As a kid I remember having so much fun doing sidequests and random battles that I took forever to get to the midgame - at which point I was already overleveled and overgeared from loot plucked off my foes.

While it's the weakest of the three FFT games, its main flaws are just the incoherence of the law system and the various clan/location systems. That said, these provide good novelty and the game itself is a ton of fun to play.
The story is more personal in stakes than FFT but deeper than it looks.

I think as a kid I saw the blue and red and thought it was veins? Tattoos seems likely given it's sort of a "villainous" Vivosaur in its movepool and all that.

Trip was a success. Lots of ammonites, belemnites, bivalves, and a possible pterodactyl bone. Plus more of the mystery black shale texture.

Feeling like something is "doing the work for you" might give a rush, but it doesn't actually seem to improve your abilities.
