On this day in 1971, student athletes hired by Hamline University pushed grocery carts stacked high with books across campus to the St. Paul college's new $3.4-million Bush Memorial Library. A Minnesota grocery chain lent the students 50 shopping carts for the job. The money students earned was used to buy new baseball uniforms.
