I feel like a lot of Sonic games keep being made with a "last ditch effort, big or home" approach instead of sitting down and figuring out slightly less crammed, more polished experiences.
And still, vibes wise they always kinda sorta work out in the end, with bitter notes of what could've been.
I lost myself in it for 60 hours because in the absolute roughness I found something that they were trying to do and I appreciated it at the time.
But yah, I think better Sonic games, that leave a grander impact can be made with focus and restraint, and not sheer scale of undercooked systems.
