you're putting your journalism behind a paywall, handing 20% of your revenue to Substack, and requiring people to hand some of their hardearned money (which they're paying to you as a subscription fee) to nazis and sex traffickers in order to read what you have to say.

that is profoundly fucked up.

i'm going to be beating my "get off substack" drum again.

because seriously: get off substack.

stop helping literal sex traffickers make money.

"AI is garbage, bro, it gives you wrong answers like half the time and the other half the time makes you stupid."

Overheard a middle schooler chastising a fellow student for suggesting they use AI. Whole middle school herd started mocking the AI kid.

...We need to let these kids at the tech bros.

Refusing to accept big tech's AI-poisoned 'future of journalism' Humans, however flawed, are

New — I wrote about how journalists proudly using AI to help them write their stories obscures the deeply human process that makes journalism a societal necessity, and one that feeds the soul of those who create it.

Hope you’ll give it a read. I promise I wrote the whole thing.

A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)

More context on this #Artemis II image:

* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right

* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

instead of going on about how ai sucks here’s something happier, a picture of my cats when they were young and would snuggle together

Forecast Your Budget Budgeting is hard. Forecasting your money shouldn't be.

I had been using a spreadsheet for my finances since 2010 or so because no budget app did what I wanted. The spreadsheet didn't do everything either so I built Forecast Your Budget with #ElixirLang and Phoenix LiveView

my cat marley laying on the top platform of a tall cat tree next to a window. he is diligently looking out to make sure no pesky birds come by. if they do he’s going to give them a stern chirping

We’re totally in a golden age of queer & queernormative fiction, it’s fucking dope. Malka Older’s Mimicking of Known Successes is a sapphic noir detective mystery series set in the future on Saturn or Jupiter. If you like SFF mysteries w/some romance Kara R Jorgensen’s Reanimator Mysteries are A+

Kingfisher is truly excellent! David R Slayton has a queer adult fantasy series that’s excellent, 2nd book coming out this summer (I’m starting the eARC soon). The first is called Dark Moon Shallow Sea—after the Sun god’s worshippers overthrow the Moon goddess of the dead, one survivor finds a box..
