Finally, a win to write about for the #Royals! Will it start something new or be an aberration? That we don't know, but it was a victory wrapped in a whole lot of resiliency, so I wrote all about that today on Inside the Crown. You know the drill - read, enjoy, subscribe.

I wrote about last night’s #Royals debacle the only way I know how - at length. I hope you’ll read it, enjoy it as much as one can enjoy reading about a game like that, and then become a paid subscriber if you’re not already because this season is…rough.
I’m in studio with Soren Petro , Kurtis Seaboldt and @kylecollier810.bsky.social on Sports Radio 810 because misery loves company and the #Royals are pure misery right now.
Ryan Weathers had allowed a .530 OPS to lefties. Jensen and Caglianone have a combined .194/.269/.324 line against lefties in their careers.
You can agree or disagree with the idea of keeping them out against certain pitchers, but that's why.
The Weekend in Review is always free to everyone. I wrote a little about the games, but dove in deeper on the Salvy stuff from the weekend too. I even begrudgingly gave a #Royals player of the week.
Lane Thomas has a .458 OBP since April 4.
They #Royals lost a game they should have won, but probably had no business winning. That's the most frustrating kind of loss. The offense wasn't to blame for this one. Instead, it's the other usual suspect - the bullpen. I wrote all about it today.
While it may have seemed like the #Royals just played a reply of Tuesday night, it was actually a different game. I did focus quite a bit on Jac Caglianone's great night as well as Seth Lugo's continued early-season success.
Batter/pitcher matchups are rarely predictive. And Valdez only loosely has reverse splits. He’s basically equal righties vs. lefties.
Shouldn’t be theoretically. Thomas has a track record against them. So does Marte. They just actually need to hit.
He had one on April 2.
#Royals lineup vs. Framber Valdez:
Garcia 3B
Witt Jr. SS
Thomas CF
Perez C
Pasquantino 1B
Marte RF
India 2B
Jensen DH
Collins LF

You can't sugarcoat the #Royals offense so far. It's been bad. But it's different than previous bad, so today on the newsletter I wrote about why I think the offense will be okay in the end, including a look at similar offenses over the past few years.
It's that time for me to hang out with Soren Petro , Kurtis Seaboldt and @kylecollier810.bsky.social and talk some #Royals on Sports Radio 810. Won't you join us?

It's the first winning weekend of the year (yes, I know they split the series, but Mondays are about Fri-Sun) and it still felt not great for the #Royals. The offense didn't get going like we'd hoped. And the pitching faltered a bit yesterday. I wrote all about it.
Kauffman Corner Podcast streaming at 9P Central tonight. @dblesky.bsky.social and I discuss the Royals inability to hit, where to bat Maikel Garcia and their amazing starting pitching.

Agreed but with Garcia at the top, it limits options against lefties.
I asked the question on 810 Wednesday. Is this a team in a bad stretch or is this who they are? We don’t know yet, but if this is a team in a bad stretch, it bodes quite well for them that they’ve mostly treaded water.
Sure. They can’t really hit anyone right now though.
They had their middle of the order bat all along.
It is WILD how different it is.
And the biggest concern I had about the offense was against lefty starters. A lefty starter shut them down. Lather, rinse, repeat.
More than any issue, though, is the 2-3-4 needs to figure it out. Bobby’s metrics are good, but he, Vinnie and Salvy have combined for 53 of the team’s 120 RISP PA & they’re hitting a combined .133/.226/.133 with RISP.
The rest: .267/.313/.367.
Easy to see the biggest problem.
