I've now updated my website to show that, due to a cancellation this morning, we now have one place available on our Everest Basecamp Trek this November.

What a Mountain Leader course this was last October. Temperature inversion from Hall's Fell Ridge on Blencathra. Absolutely stunning.

Lovely light in Combe Gill in the Lake District a couple of weeks ago.
Well, that's another end to a really enjoyable week running our Mountain Leader training course. All our candidates are now off out into the mountains to practice and consolidate skills ready for their future assessments.

Hot rock in the Lake District today. First time climbing in a T-shirt (albeit briefly) this year. A foray with Sharon into Combe Gill.

Had a couple of hours free so took a stroll around Talkin Tarn. Nice to see the blackthorn and willows in full flower. Spring is undoubtedly here. Calling chiffchaffs and singing blackcaps added to the feeling that it's all change!

The seasons are definitely changing. Chiffchaffs have been singing here for a couple of days now, and I've just seen 57 whooper swans heading north.

Basking Adders
We are approaching peak lying-out time for Adders now the March sun has enough heat to warm up the cold-blooded.
Keep your distance, the snake should not retreat if you do your job well.
Walk slowly & keep the sun directly behind you and scan the ground above the shadow of your head.
An afternoon stroll down to Gill Dubs.

Good news!
The number of nightjars recorded in the South Downs National Park is thought to have doubled in the past five years.
Seventy eight of the elusive birds, which are known for their "churring" song at sunset, were recorded last year @southdownsnp.bsky.social

1/4 This male Great Spotted Woodpecker is a creature of great habit. He always arrives not long after dawn & perches in exactly the same position on the bowl to drink.
He's hugely observant and continually scans his surroundings for danger.

Precipitation by a dark hill. River in full spate.
Sunshine and hail, or rain, or snow. Not sure which. Probably not a good idea to use the stepping stones either.
Bullfinch in the garden
A morning walk from Glenridding to Lanty’s Tarn and back via the Grisedale Valley and Patterdale, before the rain came (well almost).
A streaky brown and white bird with yellow conical beak and a red forehead patch. It is perched on a narrow, bare twig, facing to the right of the frame.
Met a little Redpoll gang yesterday. Until 2024 there were three species (Common, Hoary and Lesser) and now they’re all just Redpolls. Tough little northern characters #birds
mountain, landscape, golden hour, sunrise, fog, alpine, rocky, ridgeline, misty, serene
I got up before the sun for this. Watched the light crawl across the ridge like it was waking up too. Cold hands, warm chest. That's the whole feeling.

Morning all. Nice to see a few new friends popping in here over the last few days.
Just looking back through my pics from yesterday and realised I forgot to share this from the summit ridge of Harter Fell. Never tire of this view down Haweswater towards home. Talk about love where you live!

The view south towards Tarn Crag and Grey Crag, from Harter Fell takes in one of the wildest parts of the Lake District.
