We worked hard at the @jsaahccville.bsky.social on this new Storymap, and are really excited to share it with the world.
It frames the history of the statues in Charlottesville through the lens of our City Parks—many of which are on former plantations.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, New York.
“I am somebody” shaped how millions of us saw ourselves as kids, including me. That message mattered. It still does.
Rest in power, Jesse Jackson

A negotiated pay raise for support staff working in Charlottesville City Schools is back in the upcoming budget — despite an effort by the school board to backtrack on its agreement.

Our friends at The Haven just sent a message asking for donations to support over 80 community members who are homeless that The Haven and other partners have placed in hotels during this winter weather. They need to raise $27k. Please consider donating today.

Folks, it’s bleak out there. But here is something awesome: the Community Support Fund paid $12,500 in bond to free two VAians from the horrors of detention this week. What is less awesome is that we have two new applications that we can’t fully fund because we are now out of money. Can you help?
I am so proud of our work at the Blue Ridge Community Bail Fund
Please share and donate if you can.
We provide nothing less than freedom.

This is major. If you know anything about Shiloh/Erik's whereabouts for the last 13 years, please contact the Charlottesville Police Department.
Sage's family deserves closure. Her beloved grandmother has died, and her aunt was murdered by a serial killer. Help this family get the answers they need

With his civil rights activism, Mr. Williams gave so much to the Charlottesville community and to the nation. May we follow in his footsteps. www.vpm.org/news/2025-10...
Cville folks - does anyone have an updated list of current food pantries in the area. Not the food banks, but the food pantries that can be accessed as needed.
There is a little food pantry in front of the Presbyterian church on Angus Rd, Church of Our Savior on Rio has one, any more ideas?

Tell them you oppose the City paying a significant amount for police in schools while school support staff earn $20K-$30K LESS per year than a living wage. *Prioritize paying a living wage*
Union work is hard and frustrating a lot of days, but we had two big wins today including the reduction of police officers from 4 to 2 and the reversal of a classist work day policy. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Image is line paper with writing showing an English word followed by how it is written in the Cherokee language followed by how it is spelled and pronounced. The word is labor day and pronounced deegahluhweestaneydee heegaysuhnah eegah
Your Cherokee words for today.
The top word is English followed by how it is written in the Cherokee language followed by how it is spelled in English then how to pronounce it phonetically.

Rn 225 years ago, an enslaved blacksmith named Gabriel was planning a revolt against the "merchant class" of VA. He recruited through central VA & tidewater, even as far west as Cville. At night they fashioned old farm implements into swords & pikes after long working days being forcibly enslaved.
Digging up some stuff on local wildfires today & remembered theres a childs account of a large wildfire on Old Rag Mountain in the Columbia Speech Lab recordings from the early 1930s. Virginia really does have some remarkable accents, esp in the rural communities near the Chesapeake/mountain areas.
Our friends at The Haven have put out a request for supplies.
Please take a minute to see what they need and consider supporting The Haven and our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Happy Contract Day to CCS licensed staff! Cheers to a significant raise, protected planning time, a guaranteed lunch break, and limits on work outside of contract hours among other things! #Unionstrong
1/ Over the past several days, my better half and I have been talking about what a new UVA could mean for Charlottesville, the city that raised us and that we know so well.
If you’re looking to learn more about Charlottesville political history, @rankedchoiceva.org has a series of posts on block voting, ranked choice voting, the pros and cons of wards, and fair representation www.rankedchoiceva.org/news/from-wa...
I think this is an effort to either reallocate resources to folks in need and/or fund raise through selling donated stuff. I can send you a group link, would that be helpful?
Are you connected with the Mutual Aid Market? They are hosting a community yard sale later in the month and are looking for stuff
