The part of your brain the creates and the part of your brain that edits are different. When you edit while writing, you switch your mode of thinking and can gum up the works, so to speak, knocking yourself out of your groove. Correct obvious mistakes, but knock out your pages and edit them after.

Woman: bossy. Men: assertive.
Women: blunt. Men: concise.
Women: emotional. Men: passionate.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but women don’t always HAVE to be likeable.
Also a reminder that we need to stop the gender bias.

I recommend no fewer than 4 copies of any beloved book. A paperback for traveling and lending to friends, an eBook for reading with greasy snack fingers, an audio book so you know how the characters' names are actually pronounced, and a pristine hardcover to be buried with you like a pharaoh

Big Max book cover.

In elementary school, my teacher told my mother I was “unteachable.” I was behind in every subject, including reading. Then I found this one book in the school library and connected with it, reading it hundreds of times. I made a career in reading, writing, and editing. That’s what a book can do.

It’s not hard to write tons of different characters when you have so many voices and personalities in your head
